TIFF 2024: 38% of Yahoo Canada readers voted this celebrity as worst dressed at the Toronto International Film Festival
Salma Hayek, Sarah Paulson and Amy Adams were just some of the many stars who walked red carpets at the annual movie festival.
It's the final day of the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and Canada's largest city has been full of A-list stars attending the premieres of several highly-anticipated movies. Most recently, celebrities like Rebel Wilson and Lucy Liu have been stepping onto the red carpet with head-turning looks that exude top-notch glam.
Since the annual festival began on Sept. 5, there have been a wide range of other stunning looks from stars like Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie and Pamela Anderson. However, many high-fashion misses also graced the red carpet — and Yahoo Canada readers had the chance to share their opinions on 10 different looks from a handful of stars.
Below, check out which celebrities voters chose as the best and worst-dressed stars at the 49th edition of TIFF. Plus, read more about their looks and what they've been saying in Toronto this past week.
BEST DRESSED: Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek was a red carpet winner, according to 45 per cent of more than 2,100 votes. The 58-year-old actress was put up against Sydney Sweeney, Sandra Oh, Selena Gomez and Amy Adams, all of whom also wore some eye-catching looks.
But Hayek's glittering merlot-coloured Gucci dress was enough to win over most fans, letting the Frida star shimmer in sequins. The jaw-dropping ensemble featured a double-strand one-shoulder detail and a body-hugging shape that showed off her infamous curves.
It's a look that, in our secondary poll, saw 88 per cent of more than 1,800 votes agree that it was stunning. Out of those votes, only two per cent believed it wasn't a good outfit, and 10 per cent were undecided.
Despite being a queen of the red carpet, Hayek graciously put the attention off of herself during the red carpet. Attending TIFF for the premiere of her new film Without Blood, Hayek was quick to gush over the movie's director, Angelina Jolie, while talking to reporters.
"I'm really proud of her as a director in this movie, and I know she's extraordinary in Maria," Hayek told the Canadian Press. "I'm also proud of the fact that she gets to have a moment where we have both, and this is very exciting. Her empathy — she's so empathetic towards the people she's working with [and] also towards the characters. She's very warm and kind."
BEST DRESSED RUNNER UP: Amy Adams
Amy Adams shined in navy blue for the premiere of her new movie Nightbitch, leaving many people jaw-dropped when she walked out on the red carpet. The 50-year-old actress got 17 per cent of the more than 2,100 votes in the best-dressed celebrity poll.
The star wore a off-the-shoulder custom Prada gown that featured numerous shiny jewel embellishments and trumpet sleeves. While the recent trend of no necklaces on red carpets isn't also a hit, Adams looked beautiful with minor accessories in this look.
In the secondary poll, 53 per cent of more than 1,700 votes agreed the outfit was stunning. That was opposed to 12 per cent who voted it as bad, and 35 per cent who were in the middle.
WORST DRESSED RUNNER UP: Margaret Qualley
Margaret Qualley's TIFF red carpet look didn't resonate with many Yahoo Canada readers. When put up against other worst-dressed stars including Sarah Paulson, Chloë Sevigny, Ana de Armas and Katy Perry, the 29-year-old actress received 33 per cent of more than 2,100 votes.
Attending the premiere of The Substance, Qualley wore a confusing ensemble from Chanel that featured a teal off-the-shoulder cape, black shoulder bows and a black bodysuit. While she looked pretty (especially with a bright make-up look) at the event, she could only do so much with an outfit that left many viewers perplexed.
It's a look that left a majority of people agreeing was terrible. In the secondary poll, 94 per cent of more than 1,700 votes said it was a bad outfit while five per cent were in between. Only one per cent of those voters believed it was a good look.
WORST DRESSED: Sarah Paulson
Ultimately, Sarah Paulson was the worst-dressed celebrity at TIFF, according to Yahoo Canada readers. In the poll, the 49-year-old actress received 38 per cent of the more than 2,100 votes.
She wore a plunging navy blue blazer from Schiaparelli for the Hold Your Breath premiere, a piece that featured grand shoulders and huge sleeves covered in fringe. It was paired with matching slacks and satin heels that featured jewels, as well as a shining silver necklace.
In the secondary poll, 84 per cent of more than 1,800 votes agreed it was a poor fashion moment. Twelve per cent of those votes were in between, while only four per cent enjoyed the ensemble.
