As an elder millennial on TikTok, I live by a strict code of conduct: I never make content and I never watch dance videos. Although I was initially resistant to create an account on the app formerly known as Vine, it has become a go-to source of both entertainment and knowledge - and it somehow knows I’m in my 30s.

The algorithm and the way I use TikTok has turned my homepage into content that’s probably targeted towards moms (not me), but a subsection of said content are cleaning hacks and how tos. I’ve learned a ton of great cleaning tips and watched product reviews before, but the latest has me given me going to Disney World level of excitement: Little Green Portable Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner from Bissell.

I came across a video of someone using the Little Green on their microfibre couch and let out an audible gasp.

Cleaning has been my go-to coping mechanism during quarantine, so I spent the next hour (not an exaggeration) watching TikTok videos of people using the Little Green before I decided to order my own.

What is it?

The Little Green Portable Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner is a lightweight spot cleaner with a 3 Amp power rating designed to take on projects both big and small.

Like Bissell’s other upholstery and spot cleaners, the Little Green works with stain and spot cleaner to provide a deep clean and suction out dirt and deep stains from food, liquids and pets. To use, you fill the removable water tank with warm water and add two regular size capfuls of cleaning solution - and get to work.

Each Little Green comes with a one year limited warranty and an 8 oz sample of 2x Spot & Stain remover and a 3” tough stain remover tool.

What people are saying

The Little Green currently has a solid 4.5 star rating on Amazon from more than 3,000 customer ratings. Aside from being easy to use and boasting powerful suction, the Little Green has received praise for making tasks like cleaning carpets a breeze.

“We had a carpet with multiple stains on it from drinks being spilled. We were planning to rent a carpet cleaner but then thought it might be worth buying this since the price was low,” one shopper wrote. “I wasn't expecting it to do the same quality job but it did. This is basically all you need...don't rent one! It cleaned the carpet perfectly and worked exactly as described. And the price is great.”

“I’m very impressed with this little thing. I bought it because I have an area rug in my living room that my little a-hole rescue dog has had some accidents,” another wrote. “Most stains have come up in one pass. For the grosser ones, I spray them down before I take the pass, and they generally come up pretty easily.”

Some have found based on their needs that they should have ordered a spot-cleaner with ProHeat like the Bissell Little Green ProHeat. Unlike the Little Green, the Little Green ProHeat will maintain water temperature throughout your clean.

“I realized after, that I should've and would've bought one with a heater in it. However, I still love this little guy. It is incredibly powerful. I had a cat that peed on a chair of mine and used this to clean the chair,” a shopper wrote. “I forgot to put in the pet odour eliminator formula and it still got out the stains and smells with one treatment. I was surprised! Also used it to clean a mattress I bought as a floor model. It cleaned all the surface dirt no problem.”

The verdict

I have yet to receive my Little Green due to delayed delivery times, but I will be sure to write a full review once I receive.

Having pets has dictated some choices with my rugs and furniture, but I’m looking forward to having something that I allows me to clean the surfaces I want without worrying about renting or borrowing spot cleaners from family.

Price wise at $110, the Little Green is an affordable household investment that I hope will be used time and time again. I’m looking forward to tackling some carpeted areas and couches, which will undoubtedly make for a wild Friday night in quarantine.
