TikTokers Are Sharing Their "Unsexy Holy Grail" Products and We Have Thoughts

Taking a peek into the beauty and skincare routines of your favorite social media accounts is the easiest way to find new products to test and try. From YouTube GRWM videos to TikTok posts showing full skincare breakdowns, we love being on the oversharing side of the internet.

Yet, #BeautyTok's latest trend of sharing "unsexy products" in your routine has us questioning what makes a skincare product sexy to begin with. A quick thought would be aesthetically pleasing packaging, a buzz-worthy marketing commercial or a major celebrity backing it. Aside from the traditional ideals of "sexy" cosmetics, if a product has truly helped to transform your skin, shouldn't it automatically gain the moniker?

Many TikTok creators have put a spin on the trend by playfully stating in their videos that these "unsexy items make you sexier." In the posts, the creators are explaining how products like chafing sticks, diaper rash cream, fungal acne solutions and ingrown hair serums are products they can't live without but aren't considered cool or trendy in today's market. This leans into a bigger conversation about beauty standards and the way that certain products are marketed and categorized as a result.

On the other hand, this new trend is creating community among creators, normalizing "regular" skincare routines and bringing awareness to effective products that treat various skin conditions, types and tones.
