Tish Cyrus Says Not Smoking Weed for 7 Months Has Made Her Anxiety 'So Bad'
The 'Sorry We're Cyrus' podcast host said she has "not been okay" since quitting
Tish Cyrus spent more than 10 years as a self-described stoner — but she may be turning over a new leaf.
The podcast host, 57, revealed in October that she no longer smokes weed, and on a new episode of her Sorry We’re Cyrus podcast with daughter Brandi, explained the circumstances that led her to quit cold turkey.
“It was kind of by accident that I stopped smoking,’ Tish explained. “I went on vacation and it was somewhere I could not have pot and like three days in, [I] had the worst anxiety I’ve ever had in my life. And when I tried to smoke again… Nope.”
Tish said that it’d been seven months since the fateful trip, and that while she still struggles with “so much anxiety,” she now finds weed, which used to help quell her anxiety, “makes it even worse.”
“I smoked pretty hardcore for like, 10 years. The last seven months has been so bad for me. Like, major anxiety,” she said. “It really did just help me in so many ways. And lately I just have not been okay.”
Tish and Brandi, 37, launched their podcast in 2020 under the title Sorry We’re Stoned, a nod to Tish’s passion for marijuana (Brandi does not smoke). In October, though, they announced that in the wake of Tish quitting, they’d rebranded the podcast Sorry We’re Cyrus.
“Everybody knows that I love smoking weed. Weed was my brand,” Tish said in an Instagram video at the time. “But I have now not smoked for five months. So we are back with a new name, 'Sorry We’re Cyrus.'”
Tish previously revealed that she took up smoking in her 40s, after a traumatic experience involving daughter Miley Cyrus’s tour bus.

“I was on tour with Miley and she had gone on — we were going from like, Houston to New Orleans — and I stayed behind to meet up with friends and on the way to New Orleans our bus caught on fire,” she told E!’s Daily Pop in 2021.
The experience made it hard for her to sleep — and when Ambien didn’t do the trick, she turned to weed.
In February, she opened up to PEOPLE about her love of the drug, explaining that she’s had anxiety since she was in her 20s, and that she finds joy in weed.
That same month, she joked on her podcast that she would have been a better parent to kids Brandi, Miley, 32, Trace, 35, Braison, 30, and Noah, 24, had she smoked when they were younger.
“I actually feel like I would’ve been… I didn’t smoke pot when I had kids. I didn’t start smoking until I was like, 46,” she said on the podcast. “And so I think I would’ve been a better parent if I would’ve smoked then. I think I would’ve been… like, I don’t know, school projects, I would’ve felt more fun.”
