Toronto store slammed for 'Black Fridays Matter' ad

With Black Friday just around the corner, retailers are doing all they can to draw the attention of shoppers. But this Toronto clothing store has taken it a step too far.

The Yorkville store, The Serpentine, sparked outrage with an Instagram post they’re now calling a “play on words.”

The image, which has since been deleted, features a predominantly black crowd that appears to be rallying. The words “Black Fridays Matter” was written in red over it.

“Mobilize locally, support globally, 20-40% in store only Friday Nov 25th to Sunday Nov 27th,” read the caption.

According to CTV news, upset Instagram users are calling for the boutique store to delete their account. One user commented that the store was trying “sell clothes off the backs of a movement.”

Having drawn criticism and ample media attention, the clothing store has returned to social media, this time in the form of an apology.
