No grocery run is complete without an unexpected treat in your cart. And if your favorite Trader Joe’s impulse indulgence involves dark chocolate and creamy peanut butter, well, this latest launch might just be for you.
Trader Joe’s is rolling out a brand-new Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter in collaboration with Hardywood Park Craft Brewery this week—and fortunately, this brew is just as decadent as it sounds. The chain recently revealed this latest collaboration on its biweekly podcast, Inside Trader Joe’s.
Modeled after Trader Joe’s fan-favorite Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, this imperial porter reportedly delivers “bold” flavors of chocolate malt and peanut butter. It arrives at just over 9% alcohol by volume (ABV), which is on par with other full-bodied beers in the category. Virginia-based Hardywood Brewery, known for its dark beers and local brews, is no stranger to a novelty pint.
As for the brewing process, Trader Joe’s notes that Hardywood uses dark roasted grains to create an intense, recognizable chocolatey flavor. Meanwhile, defatted peanut powder is responsible for the beer’s nutty taste and smooth texture.

“If you left the oils in the peanut butter, you wouldn’t get the foamy head that the beer produces when you pour it into a glass. It would interfere chemically with the reaction that causes that foamy head to happen,” vice president of marketing Tara Miller explains in the episode. “During the tasting panel, the whole group, our hands shot up in ‘yes’ votes almost immediately.”

Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups first debuted in the dessert aisle around 2010. The wrapped chocolates quickly amassed a dedicated following, earning praise from food editors and everyday shoppers alike. (Last year, one of our senior editors even described these “velvety” chocolates as a “true Platonic ideal.”)
They were immortalized in the Trader Joe’s Hall of Fame in 2023—a distinction that signifies customers have chosen a product as a top pick year after year. All things considered, it’s no wonder shoppers would want to have their peanut butter cups and drink them, too.

This isn’t Trader Joe’s first dessert collaboration with the Virginia-based brewery. They’ve previously joined forces to create a Joe-Joe’s-inspired Chocolate Vanilla Stout, which aims to capture all the flavors of the chain’s cream-filled sandwich cookie. Additionally, the grocery chain has attempted a similar endeavor with its in-house Coffee Peanut Butter Cup Porter.
As for other springtime launches, you’ll also be able to pick up 12 other limited-edition food and beauty products this season. This includes the brand-new Tarongino Orange Wine, a grape wine flavored with Valencia oranges, and an entire collection of limited-edition Easter candy.
Sounds like it’s time to update your grocery list.
