Trader Joe's Is Rolling Out a Major Store Change That Will Impact Shoppers
If Trader Joe’s is at the top of your roster for best grocery stores, you’ll be excited to learn that one may be opening up near you. The chain just announced the expansion of its brand nationwide, with new locations expected to arrive in many states.
In 2025, Trader Joe’s plans to open up a dozen new stores to add to the hundreds of locations currently operating across the United States. So if your local spot has lines out the door, or if you don’t have one near you at all, this expansion could transform your grocery shopping experience.
“As we look ahead to 2025, we see dozens of Trader Joe’s stores opening in neighborhoods around the country and more crew members working together to provide customers with the best products, best values, and best experience they’ll find in any grocery store, anywhere,” Trader Joe’s stated in an Instagram clip posted on January 1, 2025.
Shoppers are beyond excited about the expansion of Trader Joe’s stores. When the chain posted the announcement about the new location on Instagram, people raced to the comments to share their thoughts. One person said, “My neighborhood can’t wait for you to become neighborly to us,” while another user said, “I’m thrilled that a new location opened this month in my city! Wider aisles, large parking lot with multiple entrances/exits, the same excellent customer service, and quality products that customers expect. Trader Joe’s is my favorite store.”
Trader Joe’s plans to open up new stores at the following locations in the U.S. this year:
California
9224 Reseda Blvd., Northridge
14140 Riverside Dr., Sherman Oaks
18700 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana
Washington
8726 Greenwood Ave., Seattle
4255 Meridian St., Suite 200, Bellingham
District of Columbia
5335 Wisconsin Ave. NW
701 Monroe St. NE
Tennessee
2305 Medical Center Parkway, Murfreesboro
Pennsylvania
550 Lancaster Ave., Berwyn
New York
6400 Amboy Rd., Staten Island
Alabama
1771 Montgomery Hwy., Hoover
Maryland
225 N Washington St., Rockville
A few factors play a role in deciding which location to open. According to an episode on Inside Trader Joe’s podcast released in October 2024, the company first looks at what it can sustain because it doesn’t want to risk expanding too quickly. They take into account the accessibility of an area, especially the “access and ease of getting into and out of, and the flow of traffic patterns,” said Matt Sloan, the co-host of the podcast.
In 2024, Trader Joe’s opened 34 new stores, bringing its total to more than 600 locations across the U.S. As 2025 begins, a new location may open near you soon — either as the first in your community or to help ease the crowds at an already popular location.
