Now that the dust has settled on the holidays and I’m adjusting to the new year (can I just say, how is it already 2025?), my grocery lists are much less festive. I stopped buying butter by the pound to bake dozens of cookies, and even Costco’s relatively affordable prime rib is sadly no longer in the budget. But I still deserve a little bit of grocery oomph to celebrate throughout the week. To mend all my post-holiday blues, I look to Trader Joe’s.

Speaking of blues, the internet is all over the quirky grocer’s latest hit in a line of stellar snacks: Cashel Blue Cheese Irish Potato Chips (say that three times fast!). As a funky-cheese and chip-lover, I knew I had to try a bag for myself to see if it’s really worth all of the buzz. Spoiler: It is!

What You Should Know About Trader Joe’s Cashel Blue Cheese Irish Potato Chips

The Cashel Blue Cheese Irish Potato Chips appear to have first hit shelves at select stores late November before rolling out to the rest of the country last month. I can’t believe this is the first I’ve heard of them, but amid the overwhelming amount of festive releases (475, to be exact), I’m not all too surprised I missed this find — until now.

The 5.5-ounce bag retails for $2.99 and features dried Cashel Blue cheese powder, buttermilk powder, salt, and a touch of sugar, all in a crunchy ridged chip. We’re not certain if they’re seasonal or a limited-time release, but each of the three times I’ve been to Trader Joe’s in the past week the section has been fully stocked with bags and bags of them.

My Honest Review of Trader Joe’s Cashel Blue Cheese Irish Potato Chips

Because I have zero patience when it comes to new snacks, within a few steps outside of my local Trader Joe’s I ripped open the bag and popped one in my mouth. WOW! Before I could get my thoughts together on discerning flavors and texture, I had eaten at least half a dozen; I was mesmerized by the chips’ funky-salty flavor and unbeatable crunch.

I’m already a big fan of blue cheese, but up until this point had mainly eaten it in crumbly, smooth pieces (usually on a cracker for crunch). Eating it in chip form, with all of its full-bodied, cheesy flavor, felt like something I didn’t know I’ve been missing out on my whole life!

Yes, these chips are absolutely worth all of the hype. In fact, I feel like they should maybe be getting even more? The only natural next step is to pair them with some actual blue cheese (after I grab a few more bags).
