If you’re anything like me, it’s been a long time since you’ve been able to secure a hair appointment for your usual cut, colour, or protective treatments. There’s no doubt that this year has been tough on our usual routines, resulting in many swaps for beauty treatments that can be done at home.

If you’re looking to achieve salon-quality results, you may be thinking that you need to pay for salon pricing, but that isn’t necessarily the case. One new brand is making it more affordable to attain the hair of your dreams, and it starts at just $7 a bottle.

What is it?

Originally hailing from New Zealand, MONDAY Haircare has just launched in Canada, and is already revolutionizing the hair aisle. Not only are all of its products SLS-free, paraben-free and cruelty free, all bottles are made from recycled materials and are fully recyclable. Not to mention just how stinking cute the packaging is.

The brand’s range of shampoos and conditioners is made up of three distinct lines to target specific areas of concern: Moisture for hydration, Smooth for silky locks, and Volume to amp things up.

I had a chance to get my hands on the Volume line of shampoo and conditioner, and have been using it for the past few weeks. Curious how it held up?

First impressions

When it comes to haircare, one of the very first things I do is ensure that the scent isn’t too overwhelming, which is an issue that I’ve found in products at pretty much every price point. I was pleased to discover that with MONDAY Haircare, there was a neutral, clean scent that simply reminded me of soap - a definite win in my books.

As someone with hair that tends to fall flat and is easily weighed down by most products, I’ll take all the help I can get when it comes to extra volume. While I was sold on the brand’s commitment to the environment and quality ingredients, I’m not entirely sure that I saw a noticeable difference in the way my hair looked. It felt silky and wasn’t overpowered by fragrance, but was there any added lift? Tough to say.

The verdict

Despite my lack of noticeable results, I feel like the benefits of an affordable, SLS- and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner that still manage to make my hair feel pretty great are definitely worth keeping MONDAY Haircare in my rotation.

I may not have seen much added volume, but I have noticed that I'm shedding less hair since I began using MONDAY Haircare, and my fine locks are not weighed down by a heavy formula.
