This unique bar introduced Wichita to something new. Now, it’s preparing to close.

A Delano wine bar that opened in the summer of 2021 is planning to close.

On Monday, the owners of Alzavino Wine Tavern at 1001 W. Douglas announced on social media that they would close the business this summer. The last day will be July 6.

“All good things must come to an end,” wrote owner Danielle Harmon. “That’s just the way it all works.”

She went on to say that running the business had been fulfilling but stressful and that she and her husband were ready to take a step back. She ended the post by saying that anyone interested in buying the bar or taking over the space should contact her.

Danielle and Ken Harmon have decided to close their Alzavino Wine Tavern in Delano.

“It’s a great location, and Delano is one of our favorite neighborhoods in Wichita,” she wrote.

Alzavino opened as Wichita’s first self-serve wine bar: It features a computerized self-service tap system made by Napa Technology that has bottles of wine encased special machines that allow people to swipe a card preloaded with money and choose various sizes of pours — from a taste to a half glass to a full glass.

It also offers food items, including sweet and savory charcuterie boards, and it was known for the private party room the owners built inside what was once a bank vault during the restaurant’s previous life as Citizens State Bank in the early 1920s.

Harmon said in the post that she was glad she and her husband took a risk on the bar.

“I’m proud of us. I’m proud of our team,” she wrote. “I’m proud of what we’ve built. But now it’s time to choose us. It’s time to take a step back and recharge, and find our ability to be present once again with each other and our kids and our friends.”
