Very Important Announcement: The World Might Finally Be Getting a White Wine Emoji
🍷Among alcohol-themed emojis, only a red wine option currently exists.
🍷Wine company Kendall-Jackson is looking to change that by petitioning Unicode to include a white white icon in the emoji keyboard.
🍷The winery is urging wine lovers to use the hashtag #WhiteWineEmoji to spread the word about its mission.
Just days after country singer Maren Morris declared that red wine is "gross," a wine company is going public with its initiative to FINALLY get a white wine emoji created for all you Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc lovers.
Kendall-Jackson vineyard and winery has submitted an extremely in-depth proposal (15 pages!!) to Unicode Consortium, the governing body that sets global coding standards (a.k.a. the emoji gods), urging them to make a white wine icon available alongside the current red wine option.
For years folks have been clamoring for a white wine emoji (even Savannah Guthrie has said she's upset about not having one), but this is the first time a proposal for it has been accepted by Unicode, according to Kendall-Jackson.
That means, this could actually happen. "What's missing isn’t the world’s passion for white wine. It’s simply the world’s symbol for white wine," the brand said in a press release. So true.

When it comes to alcohol emojis, the current options include glasses of red wine, beer, champagne, and scotch, as well as a martini and a tropical drink. Apparently, as a workaround for not having a white wine emoji, some people out there have been putting a white box next to the red wine emoji - which is of course, confusing. (TBH, we didn't even know this was a thing).
Kendall-Jackson is urging wine lovers everywhere to start using the #WhiteWineEmoji hashtag to help spread the word about its campaign - and considering August 4 is National White Wine Day, now certainly seems like the best time to get this ball rolling.
If this works, maybe we can get a rosé emoji, too?!
