VOTE: Who was the best and worst dressed at the Oscars?

The stars were shining at the 91st Academy Awards!

The Oscar red carpet was a feast for the eyes as Hollywood’s elite dressed to impressed with designs by the most prestigious names in fashion.

The red carpet is a chance for celebrities to earn a place in the annals of Oscar history. Whether they take a risk like Bjork and her infamous swan dress, or opt for classic glamour like Gwyneth Paltrow’s timeless pink ball gown, fashion plays an integral role in Hollywood and will be talked about for years to come.

This year, the celebrities didn’t disappoint, delivering looks that both inspired and divided fans of celebrity fashion.

We’ve rounded up some of the most memorable looks from the red carpet and now we’re asking our Yahoo Canada readers to choose their best and worst dressed star at the 91st Academy Awards!

BEST: Lady Gaga

For the past year, Gaga has leaned into her role as a burgeoning movie star while doing promo for “A Star Is Born.” While many wondered if the actress and singer would go back to her eccentric roots for the Oscars, Gaga was the epitome of glamour in a strapless black gown with structured waist detail by Alexander McQueen and long black leather gloves. The entire look was an homage to Audrey Hepburn in the iconic film, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” with Gaga even wearing the 128 carat cushion cut diamond worn in the film.

WORST: Rachel Weisz

A nominee for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Favourite,” Weisz’s red Givenchy look was a red carpet low point. The red latex and the delicate flower detailing with flowing skirt was a high-fashion combination that fell flat. The gown confused fans online, with many comparing the star’s look to a fruit-roll up. Hey, at least a fruit roll-up is delicious.

BEST: Helen Mirren

Despite being a presenter at this year’s Oscars, Mirren stole the spotlight with her bright pink gown by Schiaparelli. Mirren continues to prove time and time again that women, regardless of their age, can remain vibrant, sexy and stay on trend.

WORST: Emma Stone

“The Favourite” star’s latest look was definitely well, not our favourite. Stone’s copper Louis Vuitton gown was a sartorial risk that didn’t quite pay off. The waffle-iron-like design in theory should be appetizing, but the colouring and design overpower the actress.

BEST: Regina King

The “If Beale Street Could Talk” star picked up the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in a stunning white strapless gown by Oscar de la Renta. The draping, flowing train and dramatic thigh high slit provided glamour while the timeless silhouette didn’t overpower the star for her moment in the spotlight.

WORST: Linda Cardellini

Whether this was a reject from Victoria’s Secret or stolen from the archives of “The Littlest Whorehouse in Texas,” Cardellini’s Schiaparelli gown is a look best worn behind closed doors. An out of character choice for the “Green Book” actress, this over-the-top gown begs for attention, but will have viewers talking for all the wrong reasons.

BEST: Emilia Clarke

The “Game of Thrones” star traded in her icy blonde locks in favour of a sleek brunette bob that paired perfectly with her lilac gown by Balmain. The asymmetrical silhouette and pleating showed off Clarke’s figure, while the fabric of the gown adds dimension and glamour the occasion calls for.

WORST: Gemma Chan

This Valentino look is another example of celebrities taking risks to stand out on the red carpet and failing. For the past year, the “Crazy Rich Asians” actress has posited herself as one to watch on the red carpet, but this shapeless ruffled gown looks more like it was created by the bedding department of Bed Bath & Beyond than one of the most infamous fashion houses in the world. Chan’s Oscar debut fell flat, but thankfully her dress is down-filled to break her fall.

BEST: Glenn Close

“The Wife” star and nominee for Best Actress walked the red carpet of this year’s Academy Awards draped in gold, seemingly manifesting an Oscar win. Close looked glamorous in her Carolina Herrera gown with a dramatic cape, and while she might have played a “king maker” we think Close is a real-life red carpet queen.

WORST: Melissa McCarthy

The “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” star opted out of wearing a gown on the red carpet, and instead tried her hand at a jumpsuit by Brandon Maxwell. The choice didn’t quite work in her favour, with the cape, dated hairstyling overwhelming the star and Best Actress nominee.
