Want to tighten your aging skin but don’t want fillers? Here are other options

Q. I’m not ready to have a facelift, but would like to have something done to tighten my skin. Can you tell me about any devices that can help? I’m not interested in Botox or any fillers.

A. Non-invasive devices for facial tightening and rejuvenation have gained popularity due to their effectiveness and minimal downtime. Here are some commonly used devices:

Radiofrequency (RF) devices, such as Thermage and Profound RF, deliver radiofrequency waves to heat the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. They improve skin texture, firmness, and reduce wrinkles.

High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) devices like Ultherapy use sound waves to target deep skin layers, promoting collagen production and tightening the skin. They are effective for lifting the brow, chin and neck areas.

Laser devices such as Fraxel use light energy to penetrate the skin without damaging the surface. They stimulate collagen production and improve skin tone and texture, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Often combined with radiofrequency (RF microneedling), they tighten and rejuvenate the skin.

LED light-therapy devices, such as LightStim, use light wavelengths to penetrate the skin. Red light stimulates collagen production, while blue light targets acne. Green light can help with under-eye circles. They improve skin texture, tone and reduce aging signs.

Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL devices, emit multiple wavelengths of light to target pigmentation, vascular lesions and stimulate collagen production. They improve skin tone, texture and reduce sun damage.

These devices offer options to improve the skin’s appearance without surgery. Their effectiveness depends on individual skin conditions and the device.
