Warby Parker and Theophilo Release Limited-Edition Collaboration

Warby Parker and New York-based brand Theophilo are feeling nostalgic with the launch of the limited-edition "Shaunie" collection.

Paying tribute to designer Edvin Thompson's Jamaican heritage, the joyous collaboration sits at the crossroads between the past and the future, bringing vintage-inspired frames into the present day. "These sunglasses are like a memoir for me. I see my adolescence and my parents in them, but I also see the shape of things still to come. This collaboration is all about where I'm coming from as a designer and where I'm going next," Thompson shares in an exclusive press release.

The joint creative effort showcases a new technology for Warby Parker as the frames are constructed by laminating opaque acetate over translucent material, resulting in an eye-catching outline effect. The bold rectangular frames are painted in three colorways inspired by Thompson's Caribbean background. "Shade" boasts a translucent black hue, joining a bright yellow "Lemon Slice" and a juicy "Sorrel" that flaunts a red and obsidian ombre. Exclusively sold via Black Fashion Fair, "Soursop" presents an iridescent tint, mimicking the fruit's green skin and white flesh.

Warby Parker and Theophilio initially joined forces for Black Fashion Fair's debut issue in 2022 as Theophilio's brand director Antoine Gregory founded the publication. "Building space, relationships and opportunities like this for Black designers is our whole reason for being at Black Fashion Fair, so to see this collaboration bloom out of our work with Warby on Black Fashion Fair's magazine is really poignant," Gregory adds.
