‘Warfare’ Demands That You See It in a Cinema
If your ears are still ringing from the carnage of Alex Garland's Civil War, brace yourself for Warfare. The novelist-turned-movie-director is back to bombard our senses with a new action thriller that chronicles the fight for survival by a real-life Navy SEAL platoon against insurgents during the Battle of Ramadi in 2006.
Unlike most war movies or movies that claim to be "based on a true story," Warfare is devoutly realistic, eschewing the artistic editorializing and embellishment—and even the musical score—that are often par for the course. Codirected by Iraq-war veteran Ray Mendoza, Warfare sources its story directly from interviews and memories from the actual soldiers who survived against all odds one November afternoon in Iraq. (In fact, every character in the film is based on a real person, with the movie's credits pairing the onscreen actors with their real-life counterparts.) Call of Duty this is not. This is as close to modern warfare as one can get without lacing up combat boots yourself.
If Warfare sounds like a great (if harrowing) time for you, then you're in luck—the movie is finally here, and here's how you can watch it.
How Can I Watch Warfare?
Warfare will play in UK cinemas from the 16 April.
When Is Warfare Streaming?
During Warfare's release window, you cannot stream the movie on any platform. However, as soon as Warfare ends its run in cinemas, it will be available on both premium VOD and later streaming. It's not yet confirmed where.
Until then, there's only one place to check out Warfare—and unfortunately it's not on your settee. But trust us, you want to see Warfare in a cinema. You'll experience the full power of the film on a big screen, in a dark room, with no distractions.
