One surprise London business trip, an upgraded ticket, and a fudged identity later, and Camila Mendes's character Ana Santos in the new rom-com Upgraded might just be changing her whole life. Oh, and finding love (and losing it?) along the way.
In her first post-Riverdale leading role, Mendes plays the ambitious aspiring art gallerist Ana, whose boss is a Devil Wears Prada-esque Marisa Tomei with exacting standards. While on a work trip, Ana is mistaken for said boss, and chaos — and connections, romantic and professional — ensues. Her love interest is the wealthy and in-the-know Will (Archie Renaux), but can their romance withstand Ana's cascading tower of white lies? And what about all the people she's accidentally duped along the way?
Directed by Carlson Young, the movie also stars Lena Olin, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, and Anthony Stewart Head. Below, Teen Vogue can exclusively share a clip from Upgraded that features Ana and Claire Dupont (Tomei) discussing the details of the spontaneous work trip, and hinting at all the drama that is to come. Fake identities, tough bosses, and ambition-fueled meet-cutes? We're in.
Over the past few years, Mendes has been leaning more into fun comedies, starring in Do Revenge alongside Maya Hawke and acting in The Perfect Date with Noah Centineo. After Upgraded, she'll next appear in Música, written and directed by her boyfriend Rudy Mancuso, and Ian Edeman's American Sole with Bad Bunny.
Check out an exclusive clip from Upgraded starring Camila Mendes below, and the movie will be streaming globally on Prime Video on February 9.
