There’s no doubt that plenty of those who are staying at home right now have started baking as a way to fill their days. It’s a relaxing hobby that also eliminates the need to frequently head to the grocery store, so it only makes sense that more and more people have taken it up as of late.
With all that baking comes quite a lot of whisking, kneading and mixing, which can get tiring quickly if you’re doing it all by hand. Luckily, there are alternatives that will take care of most of the work for you, but they often come with a steep price tag.
The most well known of the bunch would have to be the KitchenAid Classic Series stand mixers, which will usually set you back nearly $500. If you’ve had your eye on one for some time though, now may just be your moment to pick one up and save $150 in the process.
What is it?
The KitchenAid Classic Series 10 Speed Stand Mixer is pretty much the holy grail of baking appliances, making it a worthy investment if you’re able to splurge right now.
These durable and timeless kitchen appliances do everything from whisking eggs and mixing batter to kneading dough, along with making pasta, grinding meats and peeling vegetables — so long as you’ve got the right attachments.
How does it work?
In a standard set, this do-it-all mixer comes with a stainless steel bowl, wire whip, dough hook, a paddle beater and a whisk attachment to suit all of your baking needs. It features a ten-speed mixer and a large 4.5 QT (4.25 L) capacity, which certainly helps if you’re looking to feed a crowd.
A locking design keeps the mixer’s head firmly in place when in use, but offers flexibility when needed as it tilts up to allow ingredients to be poured into the mixing bowl. Once you’re done, this mixer comes apart easily to make for quick cleanup before storing it away.
What shoppers are saying
With a 4.9 star rating and more than 9,000 reviews on the Wayfair website alone, it’s safe to say that this mixer has become a fan favourite.
“Came in today and I have already made home made butter and Chocolate Chip Cookies. I have arthritis so having this wonderful mixer is a joy,” says one shopper. “I'm a happy camper.”
“I've always wanted a high quality mixer and that's exactly what I got when my order arrived. It's beautiful, looks great in my kitchen and is so easy to use,” adds another.
While the majority of customers haven’t reported having any issues, some reviews note that the mixer doesn’t adequately mix ingredients at the very bottom of the bowl.
“I like that the bowls are steep and can put lots of ingredients at once,” reads one review. “I really like that it has many types of speeds but the downfall is that you do need to assist to have everything mixed well at the bottom of the bowl.”
“I've already used it, and I like it. Wish the bottom of the bowl wasn't as hard to get at while it is running though,” says another.
The verdict
While this mixer has a near-perfect rating, its normally high price tag can be off-putting for many. It rarely goes on sale, though, and so long as you don’t mind doing a final hand mix before putting your baked goods in the oven, now may just be the perfect chance to take the plunge.
