Whitney Port opens up about emotional IVF journey: 'It's a legit science experiment'

Whitney Port is getting candid with her fans about her in vitro fertilization (IVF) journey after experiencing multiple miscarriages.

On Tuesday, the 36-year-old reality TV star and fashion designer shared a set of selfies to Instagram along with a candid message about her about her experience with IVF. Port, who shares 4-year-old son Sonny with her husband Tim Rosenman, has previously faced three miscarriages and one chemical pregnancy.

"Pre-bloat…Two days post egg retrieval, and I feel like I swallowed Sonny, and he’s dully kicking at my ovaries," she captioned the post.

Port told fans that she's been monitoring her diet but has been navigating a range of emotions, at times feeling "calm" to suddenly feeling "unsettled."

"This whole IVF thing is so crazy!" Port continued. "It’s a legit science experiment that you do a lot on yourself sometimes with a partner, both with little education and lots of emotions. It is an inevitable colossal rollercoaster. One that you wish sometimes would abruptly end, and then at others, you feel on top of the world and more vital than anyone. It’s just so crazy."

Last week, her husband spoke about his initial reactions to her miscarriages on the latest episode of People's Me Becoming Mom podcast.

Rosenman explained that they experienced a pregnancy loss on Nov. 17, just two weeks after publicly revealing she was seven weeks pregnant with "likely another unhealthy pregnancy." The television producer admitted that his shock quickly turned into anger.

"Each time I think I kind of went through the same progression of emotions and they both started with being shocked. Because you think you're supposed to be the star of your movie and it's supposed to be a good movie. So I was shocked and then I was pissed," he said.

Rosenman said that following each miscarriage, he does his best to "keep positive" and focus on the couple's future. However, he also acknowledged that while it was a challenge they were both facing as a couple, it was likely a very different experience for Port.

"Initially, I was upset and angry and had all those feelings, but it was important to balance out how we as a family were dealing with it," he continued. "It's a different situation for both me and Whitney because we both lost the opportunity of a baby, but it happened in Whitney's body. So it's important for me to recognize that we're going through something that is similar, yet definitely different."
