Why We Haven’t Seen Much of Kate Middleton Lately

After a high-profile spring, Kate Middleton isn’t likely to make many appearances until September.

Between the birth of Prince Louis in April and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding in May, the spring of 2018 was one of the most high-profile royal seasons in recent memory. The main players? Prince Harry, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Prince William, and, of course, Kate Middleton.

But, after all of that activity, it looks like the public won’t see much of Middleton until the fall—because she’s on maternity leave with Prince Louis.

Her maternity leave officially started in late March, but with so many tentpole events, it’s easy to forget that she was technically taking time off to raise an infant and two small children. ABC News reports that the leave is expected to last about six months, which puts her back in the spotlight around September. From there, she’ll be undertaking her duties—like charitable appearances, working on Heads Together, and other official royal events—as normal.

But for now, she’s reported to be spending time with her young children up at Anmer Hall, the Cambridge family home in Norfolk, England. Near Queen Elizabeth II’s Sandringham House, the 10-bedroom property boasts impressive features like a swimming pool and a private tennis court—it’s idyllic in the summertime. Although with three children under the age of six, something tells us that Middleton won’t be doing much resting and relaxing.
