Willow Smith, 20, wore lingerie for the first time during Rihanna's October fashion show: 'I just felt so empowered'
Willow Smith says that she wore lingerie for the first time when she appeared in the Savage x Fenty runway show.
During Tuesday’s episode of Red Table Talk, Jada Pinkett Smith, who hosts the Facebook series alongside her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris (also known as Gammy) and 20-year-old daughter, said that Willow experienced some major changes throughout 2020. “You really stepped into your womanhood and you basically showed the world your transformation during your [Savage x Fenty] strut,” the Girls Trip star said.
Willow modeled a lacy black bra and panty set along with fishnet stockings and a silky black robe during the October exhibition, which aired on Amazon Prime. She accessorized with Doc Martens and silver jewelry.
With this being her first experience with lingerie, Willow recalled feeling out of place.
“I walked in and the dancers are just like dancing and they’re sweating and it's super hot and heavy and...as soon as I got in there I was like ‘Oh God, maybe I can’t handle this. Maybe this is not my place.’ That comes from my insecurity, but I put on the clothes and I looked at myself and I said ‘you’re gonna go out there and you’re gonna vibe it out,’” Willow said.
Willow added that she FaceTimed Jada to show her what she was slated to wear for the show.
“But I had already seen the outfits, alright? So I knew she was going to be in lingerie, right? She was like, ‘Mom, this is what I’m wearing.’ I was like, ‘Yes! Let them have it, Willow!’” Jada remembered.
“I was surprised! I was very surprised because I had never worn lingerie in my entire life,” Willow continued. “My first time, in front of the whole world, ever wearing lingerie. Ever. I just felt so empowered. I felt like I was stepping into my...year of me, like, becoming a woman. I just want to continue to get more confident and just [get] more comfortable in my own skin.”
“I’m just proud of the young woman you’re becoming,” Jada praised.
At the time, the show was praised for its representation and body positivity, with Lizzo, Demi Moore, Normani, Indya Moore, Rosalía and more all in it.
