Woman Asks Husband to Cancel 'Bros-Only Trip' After Giving Birth to Their First Baby
The man had planned his trip months ago, but with a caveat: "that if things got too tough, he would cancel"
A new mom wants to know whether she's being "unreasonable" by asking her husband not to take a "bros-only" trip just months after their daughter was born.
In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous 30-year-old woman shares that she gave birth to their first child, a girl, two months ago. She adds that her husband (whom she refers to as "Jake") was "incredibly supportive during the pregnancy" and promised to "be there every step of the way" in the first few months postpartum.
Jake is now preparing to go on "a week-long vacation to a cabin in the mountains for hiking, fishing and bonding" with his male friends — a trip he had planned months ago, but with a caveat: "He reassured me that if things got too tough, he would cancel the trip to help me out, and I trusted him."

Now that the baby is born, the anonymous woman says that things have been challenging.
"Between the sleepless nights, breastfeeding struggles, and just trying to adjust to motherhood, I’ve been feeling overwhelmed ... Last week, I asked Jake if he could consider canceling the trip, reminding him of his promise. I told him that I’m struggling and that having him gone for a whole week would be really tough on me," she writes.
But Jake, she adds, "seemed surprised and a bit hurt that I was asking him to cancel."
"He said he’s been looking forward to this trip for months, and that he needs a break, too," she writes in the post. "He also pointed out that his parents live nearby and could help if I needed support while he was away."
Now, Jake says his wife is being "unfair," and the two are "at a bit of a standoff."
The woman ends her post with a question: is she in the wrong for asking him to cancel his "bros-only" trip to help take care of his newborn child?

Overwhelmingly, commenters say no.
"He needs a break? What about [the new mom] needing a break?" wrote one. "Is he going to step up and take the kid for a week while she gets some much-needed R&R after maintaining and pushing out a kid, or is he going to run immediately to his parents for help?"
Another wrote: "Hubby needs to grow up. Pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood are absolutely unfair. He just seems to be confused about who they are unfair for."
In updates to the post, the woman shares that Jake eventually apologized, called his friends and told them he wouldn't be able to make it on the trip.
"It was a tough conversation, but I feel like we’re on the same page now, and I’m hopeful that things will get better from here," she adds.
