A woman who currently nannies for a 6-month-old says she made a request of the baby’s mom — and it's since caused tension in their dynamic.

The woman took to Reddit on Wednesday, Jan. 15 to detail the situation on the community’s “Am I the A------’ forum — a place where people can go to get input on interpersonal issues.

In the post, the Redditor explained that the mom — who she describes as a “lovely woman' — went back to work two weeks ago and currently works from home. She also explained that the mom works upstairs “while I watch [the] baby downstairs.”

“Baby and I are getting along great and mom likes to come down for nap time on her lunch and put baby down. That’s super helpful actually and works great,” the original poster (OP) continued.

However, the OP says her issue stems from the fact that the mom does a “pop in” every “hour or so.” She notes that the short visits cause “a screaming fit” with the baby when the mom leaves shortly after.

The OP shared that she does not believe the mom pops in due to any trust issues, noting that there are baby cams set up all over the house and the mom can regularly check in on what she is up to.

“It’s just that she misses baby. Which I get and feel for her!” the Redditor writes, adding, “But it’s torture to deal with and baby gets soo upset."

The woman says she “extremely politely” asked the mom if she could “limit the pop ins to once or twice a day.” And while her employer agreed, she says the mom has since “been cold towards me.”

“Was it wrong of me?” the Redditor asked at the end of her post.

The majority of commenters were quick to reassure the OP that she didn’t do anything wrong by making the request — with many also recognizing that it was a delicate situation.

“NTA [not the a------],” wrote one person. “The request you've made is reasonable and most importantly, it is what's best for the baby. It may not feel good to her on an emotional level, but please try your best to not take her coolness personally. Hopefully she'll figure out how to cope with the longing she's dealing with and settle into a better routine.”

Others noted that it might have less to do with what the OP said and more to do with how she said it.

“NTA. But it clearly didn’t go well,” wrote one user. “So approach her as an adult. Apologize for being a bit insensitive. Then explain that the baby gets upset when she leaves and that was your primary concern. Then ask how you can work together to sort this out. Approach it as a team. Make this an us against the problem. The problem being the baby getting upset. You got this. Mom is new to this too. It will be ok,” they added.
