When an important piece of jewellery goes missing, it can take a while for the thought of it really being lost to sink in. But after more than a decade, it would be more than reasonable to give up hope.

Mary Grams, 84, had no idea she would be reunited with her engagement ring when her daughter-in-law called her up to tell her she found a ring in the garden. We're not sure which part is crazier – the ring turning up after 13 years, or the fact that it grew perfectly around a carrot.

Grams had lost the ring while weeding her Alberta, Canada garden, 660 News reports, and despite searching the garden for days, wasn't able to find it. She never told her husband about it, instead replacing it with a smaller ring, hoping he wouldn't notice.

Luckily, she mentioned it to her son, and it was his wife who noticed something odd when she was washing carrots grown on the same farm, which has been in the family for 105 years.

To Grams' surprise, the ring was in fact hers – she recognised it the moment her son and daughter-in-law brought it over. Even better, the ring still fit.

Sadly, her husband passed away five years ago, but now she has another memento of his to hold onto. She told Global News if he was around today, he'd laugh at the whole ordeal. When he passed, they had been married for 60 years.
