Before Antonia Nicol's mother died a few years ago, she asked her husband to stay on top of one task: Look after the houseplants in the bathroom.

Nicol's father, Nigel Fitton, did as he was asked and watered them "religiously" in honor of his wife, Phedre. But when Fitton started to pack his things up to move into a retirement home recently, he and his daughter realized something: The houseplants he'd taken such good care of through the years were fake.

"Before my mum passed away, she gave my dad strict instructions to water the plants in the bathroom," she wrote on Twitter. "He's been religiously watering them and keeping them alive. They look so amazing he decided to take them to his new home, only to discover they are plastic! Can hear my mum chuckling."

Since she posted it three days ago, Nicol's tweet has racked up more than 133,000 likes and more than 40,000 retweets. She says her father has been enjoying his newfound internet fame so much, he's decided to keep up the good work.
