A text exchange between a woman and a babysitter who took care of her two children for eight hours one day is sparking controversy after going viral on Reddit. In screenshots of the conversation, posted on the site a man claiming to be the babysitter’s brother, the mother says that she “wasn’t aware payment was involved” in her agreement to have the sitter watch her children. Instead, the mom thought that “free ice cream and a day of fun” was enough, according to the text messages.

In screenshots posted by Reddit user VortexThing, people can see the babysitter reminding the mother that they had agreed on a payment of $16 per hour. When the mom says that she doesn’t have those messages, the girl sends screenshots. However, that didn’t seem to convince the mother that she owed the babysitter anything.

“You’re acting kind of stuck up aren’t you?” the mom writes, after the babysitter clarifies that she babysits exclusively for payment. But the woman goes even further to say, “I wish I didn’t have such a stuck up c*** watching my kids,” when the babysitter continues to try to compromise on payment.

The mother-of-two quickly blocked the babysitter after the exchange. However, a number of Reddit users begged the girl’s brother for an update. “She’s been blocked, what’s next?” one asked. And although some suggested a small claims court, VortexThing provided an updated post to say that they considered that option as a last resort and tried to reason with the woman’s husband first.

“Yesterday, we decided to call the husband on his personal phone. It took a few tries to get through to him, but he eventually picked up and was quite sheepish about the whole thing,” the Redditor wrote.

When there wasn’t any follow up on the husband’s empty promise to talk it through with his wife, however, the babysitter and her brother followed up via text, where their messages were left unanswered. Ultimately, they sent a message which included the following:

“Mr. [Name], we are aware you are reading our messages. We have consistently tried to reason and work with you, and it is honestly quite laughable that you are refusing to pay. After consultation with friends we have decided we will be using a Small Claims Court if you do not return us the $128 in cash that you rightfully owe.”

The text went on to explain the cost that would come with legal fees and court proceedings and assured the couple that the whole ordeal could be forgotten if they agreed to meet the babysitter in person to give her the $128 they owed. Within half an hour, the Redditor wrote that the mom unblocked his sister and set up a time the following day to do the exchange.

Reddit user VortexThing has yet to provide further updates on whether the couple actually gave his sister the money, and didn’t immediately reply to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment. However, one Redditor seems to be believe one thing — “I doubt this is the first time this woman has pulled this stunt.”
