'Work great on my veggies': Keep leftovers tasty with these silicone food savers

Their space-saving design 'hugs' the cut sides of produce, opens cans and jars to create a tight seal and keeps your food fresher for longer.

Wasting perfectly good leftovers can sometimes feel like a punch to the gut. The worst part, though, is that oftentimes, it's not even your fault. Plastic wrap, zip-top bags and the towers of storage containers in your cabinets sometimes don't do a good enough job of keeping your foods fresh and intact. We've found a genius solution, though, that'll save space, money and headaches: Food Huggers. Made of silicone, these colorful freshness preservers simply slip over your produce, cans or jars for an airtight seal.

Less than $4 a pop, and you'll be able to reuse 'em for years — take that, Ziploc!

Each set of Food Huggers comes with five round pieces in assorted sizes to fit over all sorts of fruits and veggies. True to its name, the stretchy material conforms around the cut side of whatever you're trying to save to prevent browning, just like plastic wrap would (minus the unnecessary waste and expense, of course).

These food savers are also great for placing over cans when you aren't using all of the contents in one go — we're lookin' at you, recipes that require only a tablespoon of coconut milk! Plus, you can even use them on seltzer and soda cans to keep your carbonated beverages fizzy once they've been opened.

Available in five fun color combos, these containers are also much more aesthetically pleasing than other preservation methods, like bulky tubs and plastic bags, which can make your fridge look cluttered. And the fact that you can clean them in the dishwasher is the icing on the cake.

Thousands of Amazon customers — more than 5,400 of them, to be (kinda) exact! — were so impressed by Food Huggers, they awarded them a five-star rating.

"I already have a set and bought two more sets for gifts," one satisfied shopper shared. "It's great to store lemons, limes, tomatoes and onions face-down in these and not use plastic. It's important to store them flat in the fridge or they may fall out of the little silicone cup."

"It really helps for the things that I have no lid to or that I just like to have quick access [to]," wrote another fan. "It has cut down on buying plastic wrap, so it works out as far as value."

If you have pets, the Food Huggers may be just what you need to keep things fresh: "[They] keep my dog's food from drying out (canned food) and work great on my veggies too. Easy to wash as well," one dog parent wrote. Another even added that "the can cover size is better than any dog food cover out there."

While they're super effective, another shopper said they have their minor faults: "These are pretty cool! It is difficult to get them back into the nice tight arrangement that they came in, but I like them — no more plastic wrap!" Another tip: "Not all fruits and veggies are the perfect size for any of these, but when you happen to have the right size produce within the range for one of these, it works."

It's January — how about this cool wintry-blue color scheme?
