Yellowstone Creator Taylor Sheridan Returns as a Guest Star in Season Four

Over the last few years, many fans have come to know Taylor Sheridan for his gripping sense of drama, writing and helming shows like the mega-hit Yellowstone and its upcoming prequel and spinoff, as well as films like Hell or High Water and Those Who Wish Me Dead. But some may not know that the multi-hyphenate creator actually got his start as an actor, appearing in stints on shows like Veronica Mars and Sons of Anarchy. And this season on Yellowstone, he's been getting back to his roots, appearing as cowboy and horsetrader Travis Wheatley.

It's not Sheridan's first appearance on the show, of course—the character first popped up as a cameo on season one and later appeared twice in season two. But this time around the character has certainly been getting more screentime, thanks to the Dutton family patriarch John's newfound quest to make the Yellowstone ranch a major player in the horse world. Travis's new position with the Duttons, putting together a champion collection of horses and riders, has not only given Sheridan a moment to shine in front of the camera as the cocksure, seasoned pro, but also the opportunity to show off a few of his own riding skills. (In addition to his other jobs, Sheridan also owns horses and sometimes competes in Western riding—he even bought the 6666 ranch where the Yellowstone spin-off is set earlier this year.)

Exactly how long Sheridan's role in front of the camera will last this season isn't clear yet, but with rumors of a Yellowstone season 5 already in the works, we can expect to see plenty more of his work behind the scenes.
