‘Yellowstone’ Fans "Bawled" During Beth and Rip’s Scene in Last Night's Episode

From Good Housekeeping

  • Yellowstone returned to Paramount Network with a new episode, "We're Going Back to Cali."

  • During episode four, Beth (played by Kelly Reilly) and Rip (played by Cole Hauser) took their relationship to the next level.

  • Fans, of course, are thrilled to see their love blossom — but also have questions about Beth's big reveal.

Now that Yellowstone fans know that Jimmy is alive and well after last week's cliffhanger, it's time to move on to something sweeter: Beth and Rip's on-again relationship.

Their relationship really took a positive turn after Rip rescued Beth from the Beck brothers at the end of season 2. Since the start of the current season, the two have shared some of their most romantic — albeit, intimate — moments to date, including the time when they slow danced under the barn's spotlight. But this Sunday's episode, titled "We're Going Back to Cali," the pair made things official — or at least, as official as it gets for Yellowstone's on-again, off-again couple.

During one of the season's most tender moments yet, Beth referred to Rip as "baby," which he loved so much that he asked her to repeat it. Then he wanted to return the favor, asking what Beth would like to be called: "Wife," she said coyly. The sweet moment didn't last long, however, because Beth was immediately embarrassed by her answer, even telling Rip that she "takes it back" before scurrying away.

Later on in the episode, Beth explained to Rip why she has a tendency to leave him high and dry.

"You know why I always run away? Because there's only so much that I can give you, Rip. I can't have children. You need to know that. Being with me is the end of you." Rip confirmed that she's more than enough for him, and that he doesn't really want kids — or dogs, for that matter "running around the ranch" anyhow. "You're all I need," he told her.

For Yellowstone fans, this moment felt three seasons in the making, especially since it's a rare to see Beth in such a vulnerable state. As expected, many lost it as soon as Beth told Rip to call her his "wife":

Others — okay, everyone — was swooning over Rip's unwavering love for Beth after her confession:

But some clued in on past events that may be linked to Beth's bombshell, theorizing that her infertility may somehow be tied to her hatred toward Jamie.

Keep in mind that this fan theory has been floating around since season 2 with many theorizing that Jamie somehow injured Beth, which caused her to miscarry a baby at a young age. Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth, tells Good Housekeeping that the actual reason why Beth hates Jamie so much is far more complicated: "I don't think anyone will see this coming — at least not to the detail. It's so fueled with emotion and feeling. This isn't just a sibling rivalry."
