Yes, You Can Stream Live Church Services on Christmas Day — Here's How

From Woman's Day

If you wake up Christmas morning to a blanket of icy snow covering the roads or a fever high enough to keep you in bed all day, don't fret. You can still partake in your Christmas tradition of attending church from the comfort of your own couch.

In today's digital age, you can stream Christmas church services online to celebrate the birth of Christ through technology in real time. It may not replace the physical act of attending service, but it's the next best option for someone sick, traveling, or stuck inside due to inclement weather — here's everything you need to know about streaming live church services.

Find the church service for you.

Though your local church may not offer a streaming option on Christmas Day, there's a good chance you can find a live broadcasting option from a different community on their church website, YouTube, or an app.

Going the website route? If you're Catholic, you can visit CatholicTV for all papal programming. Another option: Christian World Media lets you stream a wide range of Christian services online for free. Once in the website, you can see the services being streamed live at the moment and the ones that will be streaming in the future, so you can plan ahead.

Other churches may take advantage of YouTube Live. All it takes is a quick search and the click of a play button on YouTube to access daily services from communities like New Hope Christian Church or International House of Prayer (which has a 24/7 live stream) — no subscription required.

If you don't want to bring out your computer and would rather stream it from your phone, there are also apps to stream services on your Android and iPhoneCatholicTV is one option.

Get a full screen experience.

You don't have to stay confined to your laptop (that is, unless you want to watch from bed). Consider ordering an HDMI cable, which allows you to share an Internet connection among two devices. In this case, you'd be looking to connect your laptop, which is streaming your selected live mass, to your TV, so that you can watch the service on a bigger screen. All you have to do is connect the HDMI ports on your computer and your TV and you're all set.

But, if you're one of those people who has a smart TV, all you'll need to do is search through the TV apps to download a church app unto your TV. There's a variety of ones to choose from and although your go-to church may not have its own channel or app, you can tune in to another — like Churches of the Nazarene or Church On the Rock.

Test your stream beforehand.

This is key! Try streaming a mass before the one you've chosen for your Christmas celebration has started, so that if you encounter any challenges, you can address them properly. Happy streaming!
