13 Frustrated Men Are Sharing The Obnoxious "Manly" Habits They Refuse To Partake In That May Give "Old-School" Men Heart Attacks
While each gender deals with its own stereotypes, in America, men are often associated with things that are "tough" — but not all men connect with this identity (which is 100% okay — there's no such thing as what a man "should" and "shouldn't" be).
So when Reddit user Recent-Philosophy144 asked: "Guys of Reddit, what’s a stereotypically masculine thing that you couldn’t care less about?" over three thousand men shared their thoughts. Here are some of the top answers below:
1."Acting tough for no apparent reason."
2."This depends pretty heavily on your definition of masculinity, but I’ve never wanted to sleep around, have a high 'body count,' or any of that. I just want to find one woman who’s right for me and marry her."
3."No one’s taking my tasty bright-colored cocktails with little umbrellas on them away from me."
4."Crying in front of my significant other. Sometimes, you just need to have a good cry to let it all out."
"I love to cry with my boyfriend, and I love it when he opens up to me. I don’t understand dating someone you have to hide your tears from. Going on two years crying and laughing together."
5."Cars. Other guys see a car and immediately know the make, year, and most important things about a specific car. I only know the brand, and that's if I see the logo. And that's assuming it's not some obscure logo."
6."Sports."
"The only reason I follow football is because my wife is into it."
7."$100k Pickup Trucks."
8."Catcalling. I have actually only seen two guys do it, and I have never thought that was anything more than cringe. I usually just ask them if it actually works, and they chill out with it. I can say your dress looks nice without dry-humping the air."
"I've only ever seen one guy actually do this, and his buddies, to their credit, tried to get him to stop. All he said in response was, 'Treat others the way you want to be treated,' which remains to this day one of the most strangely profound things I've ever heard."
9."UFC/MMA. I couldn't care less about it."
10."My man says, sitting to pee. There's less splash. He's only ever left the seat up once when he was flushing cat puke, lol. I don't get why since men find it problematic."
"If I'm not wearing clothes, I sit to pee all the time, especially in the middle of the night. Less chance to miss when I'm half asleep, and it's easier to fart in that position. If I'm wearing clothes, though, it's so great. I just open my fly and cut loose. It's got to be hard being a woman on a snowy day in the woods."
11."Grilling. It's hot as hell outside; let's spend a few hours next to the only thing in the yard that's hotter than the weather. If you enjoy it, by all means, knock yourself out. But I have no interest."
12."Helping my wife. People act like it’s not manly to do things like hold her purse, tie her shoes, or hold her girly drink for her. Everyone acts like you gotta fight off attackers or sacrifice yourself to a bear to save her life, and don’t get me wrong, I would do those rings in a heartbeat for her — but truly, the little things in between are my favorite. I think it’s the epitome of masculinity to be helpful to your wife."
"When I first got to know my partner, he had a box of good tampons in his car. Most men would scoff at that, but I absolutely loved his reasoning: His ex had needed some, so he picked them up and left the box in there for emergencies for his female friends. It had been extremely handy in various situations with multiple of our friends. It was a real change up from my previous ex, who was petrified of being considered 'unmanly' at the store if I asked him to buy me some.
Straight up, when men do help out women like this, whether holding a bag, tying their lady's shoe, or anything at all, it is some of the most endearing acts a guy can do, and frankly, it's a bit of a turn-on. It's massively attractive to know the man you're with has the confidence in himself not to shy away from courteous actions that others would worry they'll be judged for."
13."Strip clubs."
