This 1935 Auburn 851 Supercharged Speedster will be part of the RM Sotheby’s Hershey auction, being held October 9 and 10.

The restored example on offer features a beautifully maintained red-upholstered interior.

The car is fit with a 150 hp, 4.5-liter supercharged straight-eight engine.

The body’s tapered back end is responsible for the “boattail” moniker commonly added to the model.

An icon of an ambitious age, the Auburn 851 Supercharged Speedster looks fast just standing still.

On the dashboard of each 851 Supercharged Speedster is a plaque engraved, “This certifies that this Auburn Automobile has been driven 100.8 miles per hour before shipment.”

One example of the Auburn 851 Supercharged Speedster topped 100 mph, uninterrupted, for 12 hours—the first American production car to do so.

This car is estimated to fetch as much as $850,000.
