Ariana Grande Makes a Strong Case for Wearing Heels to the Airport

Ariana Grande travels more than most of us as she goes from film set to concert stage to award show or film festival red carpet. And even through her busy flight schedule, the superstar still manages to look as poised as her Wicked character, Glinda the Good Witch while at the airport.
The “the boy is mine” singer was seen arriving at Haneda Airport in Tokyo today in a look that screamed either theater kid or wealthy art gallerist. She wrapped herself up in a pillowy black cape-like coat so oversized that it covered nearly her entire body, enveloping her like a sleeping bag. Grande styled the puffy outerwear with transparent black lace tights with a vintage floral pattern, and, most unexpectedly, ivory heels. These were Valentino Garavani by Alessandro Michele’s new Bowow Pumps—each with a rounded toe, a small block heel, and a pretty bow at the front. While most people would opt for more comfortable footwear—maybe sneakers or Birkenstock clogs, like those her companions wore—for a long travel day, Grande is, evidently, not most people.
The rest of her ensemble was just as posh and unexpected. For jewelry, Grande wore a pair of pink pearl studs, and for glam, she added on some sparkly blush eyeshadow, a baby-pink manicure, and a high, wavy ponytail with wispy side bangs.
With her latest travel look, Grande joins the throngs of stylish stars—including Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Jennifer Lawrence, and Catherine Zeta Jones—who’ve taken it upon themselves to elevate airport dressing over the past couple of years.
