Costco Customers Suspect The Bakery Made A BIG Change & They're Not Happy About It
The Costco bakery might have made a big recipe change, if there's any truth to a post made on Reddit this week. After visiting a warehouse location in Southern California, a person turned to the social media site to ask fellow customers if they too, thought the icing on the Costco bakery chocolate cake has changed.
They described the icing as having more of a milk chocolate taste that comes across as "generic."
"The last two times I've gotten the 10" chocolate cake with mousse the icing has been... milk chocolate? Definitely not as fudgy or dark chocolatey," they wrote. "At first I wasn't sure if they'd just lightened the amount of chocolate in their mix, but then it occurred to me that the icing tasted... generic."
Other users quickly chimed in, glad that they weren't the only ones who noticed the distinct change.
"Dude!! I thought my taste buds changed! I completely concur. Something def changed. It became sweeter and less rich," one person wrote.
"I noticed the same thing. Glad I'm not the only one," another user added.
Delish has reached out to Costco for comment.
No stranger to switching things up in a flash, the Costco bakery was met with backlash after making a change to a popular bakery item last December.
A post on Reddit revealed that the bakery got rid of its mix & match 12-count muffins (two packs of six muffins) for $9.99 and replaced the deal with one pack of eight muffins of the same flavor for $6.99. The switch essentially gives customers less variety and decreases the value of the muffins.
Please just take it easy on us this year, Costco bakery. That's all we ask.
