If someone asks, “Where’s the beef?” you can now direct them to a busy spot in Irmo.

Wendy’s, the well-known national fast food chain, has opened a new restaurant at 10601 Broad River Road. That’s a couple miles northwest of Interstate 26, near the intersection of Broad River Road and Dutch Fork Road.

The town of Irmo hyped the grand opening of the new Wendy’s in a recent Facebook post, encouraging residents and visitors to “get ready to savor those hamburgers, fries, and Frosty shakes.”

The new Wendy’s joins a host of other restaurants and businesses in the Broad River Road and Dutch Fork Road corridor. Other businesses just west of the Wendy’s include McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, Arby’s, Freddy’s, Tractor Supply Co., a San Jose Mexican restaurant and more. There’s a Walmart Supercenter less than a mile away, and a new Whataburger, the Midlands’ first, recently opened in the area.

And more businesses are on the way. A new Biscuitville restaurant is under construction next door to the Wendy’s, with Biscuitville touting a winter opening on its signage.

It’s an area that sees a wealth of traffic. About 21,000 cars per day traverse down that section of Broad River Road, per state Department of Transportation data.

There are more than 6,000 Wendy’s locations across the U.S., per the company’s website. That includes 139 restaurants in South Carolina. There are 11 Wendy’s in Columbia and three in Lexington. Wendy’s opened a new restaurant in 2023 on Platt Springs Road near Red Bank in Lexington County.

The company is known for its cheeseburgers, Frosty desserts and chicken nuggets, including perhaps to the curiosity of longtime nugget-dipping enthusiasts — a new line of Saucy Nuggs that come already dipped in various flavors.
