Flowers Catch on Fire During Couple's Wedding Ceremony: See the Video (Exclusive)
The bride and groom's content creator, Kaitlyn Winn, tells PEOPLE that many guests thought the incident was "the highlight of the day"
Several flowers caught on fire during a couple's wedding ceremony.
A bride and groom, whose names have been omitted for privacy, finished exchanging vows and were about to share their first kiss as husband and wife when suddenly a fire broke out.
The pair were standing in the center of a half circular white floral arrangement during their December 2024 wedding ceremony at Tamborine Mountain Glades in Australia when the groom noticed flickering yellow, orange and red out of the corner of his eye. Their artificial flowers had been placed too close to the dozens of lit candles on the ground, causing some flowers to suddenly start burning.
"The groom actually noticed first, then the bride turned around," Kaitlyn Winn, the couple's wedding content creator and owner of Moments by Kait, tells PEOPLE. "The bridesmaids then saw what the bride was looking at and quickly picked up the florals before giving them to the groomsman."
Footage of the incident taken by Winn and recently posted by her on TikTok shows one bridesmaid coming to the rescue by picking up the flaming flowers. Her attempts to distinguish the smoking flowers by shaking them fail, but she's able to hand the flowers to a groomsman. He runs away with his arms outstretched to a nearby body of water, and puts out the fire off camera.
"Your bridal party saves your wedding from burning down 🫣🔥🔥🔥🔥," Winn wrote in the caption. Her video has amassed more than 850,000 views and 20,000 likes since it was posted on March 19.
Winn says that the couple and their 50 guests didn't let the mishap ruin the rest of the wedding.
"There was quite a lot of laughter from the guests," she tells PEOPLE.

While she was speaking to friends and family of the couple for an iPhone guestbook, Winn discovered that the unexpected accident was actually a positive surprise in many guests' opinions.
"A couple of guests I interviewed at cocktail hour said that this was the highlight of the day for them," she recalls. "It really lightened the mood and because the groomsman was so fast thinking it didn't interrupt the ceremony too much."
"The celebrant was also really calm and kept his cool," she adds. "He joked that the groomsman needs to add volunteer firefighter to his résumé."
