As brat summer and demure fall take over TikTok, here's what your zodiac sign says about your personality

People have been living in a demure or brat state of mind ever since the terms went viral on TikTok, but which one are you, based on your zodiac sign?

Following the release of Charli xcx’s sixth studio album Brat in June, the term “brat summer” quickly took over the Internet as people associated with the album’s lyrics and aesthetic.

Reminiscent of Y2K and indie sleaze fashion trends, being brat was essentially defined as being an “It” girl, but doing it effortlessly. It’s about not taking yourself too seriously but also not being afraid to speak your truth.

As summer came to a close, however, a new TikTok state of mind emerged as influencer Jools Lebron popularized the term "demure."

In sharp contrast to “brat summer,” the demure trend is all about being “very mindful” of those around you. By definition, the word is used to describe someone who is more reserved, modest or shy.

While Leos, who love to be the center of attention and have a flair for the dramatics, are total brats, Saturn-ruled Capricorns who crave discipline and responsibility are demure to a tee.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

As a Fire sign, Aries are known for their high energy and being incredibly confident and self-assertive, making them totally brat. They are also natural leaders who inspire those around them, just as Charli xcx inspired everyone with her “brat summer” mantra. Being ruled by Mars further solidifies their “brat” status as the planet symbolizes courage and strength as well as putting your goals into action.

Aries signs Kristen Stewart, Lil Nas X and Lady Gaga can all be categorized as brats as they are rule breakers in their respective fields.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Taurus is demure to a tee as they are often known for being dependable, organized and incredibly kind. This is further exemplified through their Earth element, which often makes them very practical, analyzing the facts before jumping into things. Being ruled by Venus, a.k.a. the planet of love and beauty, they also have an appreciation for the finer things in life.

Demure queens with Taurus as their zodiac sign include Gigi Hadid, Barbra Streisand and the late Queen Elizabeth.

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

With their dual personality, it’s no surprise that Gemini signs are total brats. Whether they’re seeking out new experiences or gossiping with friends, they’re always social butterflies flittering through the crowd. As the first of the Air signs, Geminis have a youthful energy, making them very playful and curious about the world around them.

Gemini celebrities who capture the brat essence include Spice Girls’ Mel B, Helena Bonham Carter and Kendrick Lamar.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

While Cancer signs are known for being reserved, the zodiac sign’s other characteristics make them totally brat. For instance, they are known for being incredibly emotional and nostalgic for the past, which matches the Y2K aesthetic of the brat movement. Additionally, they are known to be somewhat stubborn and moody, a.k.a. being a little bratty. Their heightened emotions are further exemplified by their planetary ruler, the moon. As astrologer Valerie Mesa tells PEOPLE, they “are the quintessential crybaby” of the zodiac signs.

Celebrities that are mutually Cancer signs and brats include Missy Elliott, Cyndi Lauper and Lindsay Lohan.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

As a Fire sign that loves the spotlight, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Leos are total brats. They are expressive and live for dramatics. With the Sun as their planetary ruler, they shine bright in a crowd and exude confidence and charisma.

Additionally, they are known for being super flirty and romantic.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

While some may think Scorpios are total brats, their stoic nature makes them very demure. As Mesa notes, “Scorpios are intensely magnetic and mysterious,” which is the textbook definition of demure. As a Water sign, they are also known to be sensitive to others' feelings, a.k.a. being very mindful of those around them.

Celebrity Scorpios who are known to be very demure include Emma Stone, Anne Hathaway and Julia Roberts.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

Sagittarius signs crave adventure, making them total brats who would jump at the chance to have a night out on the town. The Fire sign is a thrill-seeker known for being incredibly creative and adaptable. While they are free spirits, they are also in touch with their emotions and crave making connections with others.

Sagittarius celebrities who are total brats include Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Billie Eilish, the latter of whom is the queen of rocking “brat green.”

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Naturally, the hardworking and diligent Capricorn is very demure. As an Earth sign, they are incredibly responsible and very serious. This is further personified by their planetary ruler Saturn, a.k.a. the taskmaster planet that emphasizes discipline and self-control.

Very demure Capricorn celebrities include Kate Middleton, Michelle Obama and Diane Sawyer.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Naturally, the rebellious Aquarius would be a brat. They march to the beat of their own drum and do as they please. Ruled by Uranus, they revolt against authority and are known for being incredibly unpredictable and spontaneous, which describes being brat to a tee. “Aquarians love to go against the grain; this Air sign is constantly people-watching and low-key enjoys getting a rise out of others, even if it's completely harmless,” Mesa adds.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Pisces are sensitive creatures, making them very mindful of those around them. Further exemplifying demureness, the Water sign is described as empathetic and compassionate, making them great listeners. With Neptune as their planetary ruler, they are both mystical and intuitive. “Even when Pisces isn't being ‘demure,’ their Water element and Mutable modality can explain why this zodiac sign is often considered an enigma unless you know them personally,” Mesa notes.

Celebrities who are both Pisces and demure include the late Elizabeth Taylor, Carrie Underwood and Eva Mendes.
