This home was originally built in 1890 and is tucked within the riverside district of downtown Bluffton.

This home received its name from the original owner, Dr. Paul Fitzsimmons Pritchard. He built the house on the land before the beginning of the Civil War but lost it during the burning of Bluffton in June 1863, when Union soldiers destroyed much of the town.

His son, Charles Teft Pritchard, rebuilt this Carolina farmhouse-style home in 1890, leaving the beautiful house now seen today.

In the 1990s, the home went through an expansion that added a wing on each side of the house, but the renovations stayed within the same historic style. These wings added a primary suite and a kitchen/dining seating area to the home.

Listing agent Julie Breedlove of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty stated, “It’s hard to find a home like this with so many pieces and details of the original home still intact.”

Now, this 135-year-old home is searching for its new owner.

The main house is 2,500 square feet with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Unique characteristics of the home include the extensive landscaping and live oaks blanketing the property. The current owner of the home is a master gardener and stated that the “camellias and sasanquas on the property are fabulous.”

Breedlove noted that one of her favorite parts of the property is the kitchen.

“It’s such a beautiful space to be in. The kitchen is a spot where you spend so much of your time sitting, visiting or dining and this is a great space for that,” Breedlove said.

One of the most eye-catching features is the the large center island in the kitchen, which features a glass inlaid mural piece by artist Lillian Heyward titled “Mermaid by the Sea”.

But one of the most special places of the home for the current owner is the guest cottage, which she has used as an Airbnb.

“Guests would always tell me that they felt at peace here and slept very well. I would get so many people that came back over and over again to stay,” said the current homeowner. “That will be one of the hardest things to leave.”

Located right on the water, this home is the ideal location for beautiful views and magnificent sunsets.

Despite the home’s rich history, upgrades and enhancements over the years include new Viking appliances, mahogany doors, a laundry room, a mud room and herringbone floor.

Details like the home’s exterior and hard pine floor were stand-out features to the current homeowner, who noted that “this home is so solidly constructed, and you can feel it.”

The home has a pier and dock for boating, fishing and other activities that waterfront life brings.

After only a week on the market, there had already been interest in the home. There is even an invitation-only open house set for this weekend, Feb. 1, for certain buyers and local realtors.

“I’m very excited to see what happens with this home, it’s so beautiful,” Breedlove said.

With its prime location in Old Town Bluffton, this property is well known by locals and visitors alike for its history and beauty.

While the current owner is ready to search for something new, they stated that “There are too many things I love about this house to count.”
