Katie Sturino is encouraging followers to ask questions.
Sturino is one of the countless body acceptance advocates using social media to speak out about the importance of self-worth and size inclusivity, and her latest video is no exception.
In the clip, the "Body Talk" author stood outside in a black and white striped t-shirt and a pair of jeans. She smiled as she walked toward the camera while the words: "I didn't wear jeans until I was in my 30s. I told myself I just didn't look good in them. What lies are you telling yourself?" appeared on-screen to highlight how her perceptions influenced what she wore.
In the caption, Sturino challenged her followers to ask themselves difficult but important questions to help them love and accept their authentic selves.
"Ask yourself, who told you that you 'can’t' wear something?" she wrote.
Fans were quick to praise the inspiring message and shared their stories in the caption.
"So many lies. I didn’t wear shorts or skirts until my late twenties because some kids had made fun of my bow legs," revealed a follower.
"Yep. Shorts and bathing suits. And I grew up in a very hot beach community. So, yeah, I wore pants at the beach, or I just didn’t go. Now I’m 42, and for the last few years, have been wearing both without a second thought. I want to shake/hug my younger self. Thanks for your work, I love it!" shared someone else.
"Your messages are so powerful and this really hit home! You are amazing and helping to change the lives of women everywhere!" wrote another.
"This. Everyone needs to hear this message," said another fan.
Last month, the influencer asked her fans to step out of their comfort zone in order to help love the skin they're in.
In the clip, Sturino stood on a dock overlooking a lake. She rocked a lilac bikini with white trim and smiled at the camera while the words: "How are you loving yourself this summer? Are you s— talking yourself in the mirror? Hiding at the beach? Not even going to the pool? Wearing jeans in July? This summer is yours, so start today and wear the bikini!" graced the screen.
"Mid-summer check in! I got a lot of DMs from y’all this weekend saying you are struggling, so I’m going to challenge you to do one thing that you haven’t done yet this summer to help you feel more comfortable in your skin!" she wrote in the caption.
"Examples: Go to the store in a tank top and watch as no one looks at your bare arms! Stand up in your swimsuit in a public pool/beach without covering up for 10 minutes! Buy a bikini (probably on sale now!) and surprise yourself with how good you look! Compliment a friend who puts themselves down, spreading light!" Sturino suggested.
