July's new moon peaks on July 5, a few weeks ahead of the full Buck Moon on July 21 this year

Fireworks are going to have an extra dark backdrop this Fourth of July!

Why? Because this month's new moon will take place on July 5 this year, completely blacking out the night sky as it enters this stage of the lunar phase.

The new moon's appearance is the complete opposite of its full moon counterpart, which often appears bright and radiant when viewed from Earth at its peak. This month's full moon, nicknamed the Buck Moon, rises on July 21, 2024.

Despite the new moon's faint appearance when looking up at the sky, its astrological energy will undoubtedly be present and significant for all zodiac signs. It will take place in Cancer, the fourth zodiac sign on the wheel.

PEOPLE's resident astrologer Kyle Thomas says this Water sign aligns with domesticity, emotional security, our ancestors and families. He predicts "it will energize" our lives, "allowing us to reflect on the past and better understand our foundations so we can build toward our greatest plans and endeavors."

July's new moon kisses Mars, which Thomas says can bring "passion and excitement to our lives and relationships." It also smiles upon Saturn, he adds, which can bring "stability and strength to our plans, emotions and goals."

The new moon also unites with Venus, which Thomas says can bring "pleasure, beauty and harmony to our lives." The other planets are in a rare dance, he notes, which means that "relationships, situations and endeavors launched at this time will be multi-faceted and possess many layers."

Above all, positive energy is upon us. "Success, happiness and good fortune can be found personally or professionally," he adds.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

"Get ready for a new moon that offers a new horizon around domestic, home and family matters," says Thomas.

"Some of you may now be deciding to move or instead make an important shift to your living situation," he puts forth. "This could be a renovation, remodel or redecorating plan or even the coming and going of a roommate."

With your family also spotlit, Thomas says "this is a good time to check in with your kindred."

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

It’s time to soar, Taurus!

"Open your mind to vast new ideas," says Thomas. "With the new moon highlighting a very intellectual sector for you, new concepts and visions will fill your head."

Thomas adds, "You may now begin working on a milestone communications-related project, such as a website rebrand, social media makeover or a writing or speaking initiative." He says, "Contracts could soon pop up, too, so get ready for a change of pace!"

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Think gold, Gemini!

"Money is on your mind as soon as the new moon sings its song," says Thomas. "This means that you could soon see a shift around your income, such as a new job offer, side hustle, raise or lucrative client."

He adds, "Assess your income and expenses and see how you can build greater prosperity in the year ahead."

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Choose authenticity, Cancer! "The most important new moon of the year has arrived for you because it has your name on it," notes Thomas.

This means ou will be given a "cosmic reboot in all regards," which he explains could "help you to dust off your vision board and assess what you want most in the year to come." He adds, "Step into the spotlight, assert yourself and know that what you initiate now has long-term potential."

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

It’s time to lie low and recharge your batteries. "You love to go-go-go," but Thomas says this new moon is telling you to "be slow-slow-slow."

You will notice that the universe seems to be "speaking to you in synchronicities and in dreams," he says, "encouraging you to fantasize about what you’d like to tackle once birthday season arrives." Therefore, he suggests you "pay attention to your intuition and focus on improving mental health."

As the new moon energizes your social life, Thomas says "you could soon be attending festive parties, networking events and gorgeous gatherings." If you’d like to expand your circle, he says "now is a fantastic time to do it."

Thomas says "keep your eyes peeled!" Why? Because an "opportunity to pursue an important aspiration could also appear now." Get excited!

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Focus on your ambitions, Libra!

"Big career momentum is right around the corner for you as the new moon puts your name in lights!" predicts Thomas. "You will be given an opportunity to step up in your job or industry, which may bring more recognition and wealth." (He says awards or promotions may be offered if deserved!)

However, if you’ve been feeling stagnant in your position, Thomas says "it’s time to look elsewhere." Dust off your resume because "an amazing job could be listed in the days following this new moon."

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Set your eyes on the skies, Scorpio!

The new moon falls in a fellow Water sign, which Thomas predicts "will make you feel so aligned with the universe." So spread your wings and fly!

He says you're "clearly in need of stepping out of your comfort zone" and "shaking things up," so do so now! "Getting involved in media projects, long-distance travel, spirituality or academics will give you the good vibes you seek," he adds.
