'It's just not worth it': Alessia Cara opens up about abuse from 'disgusting' online trolls
Alessia Cara is opening up about the impacts of online bullying in a new Instagram post.
The 22-year-old “Scars To Your Beautiful” took to social media to reveal some of the hurtful messages she receives from online trolls.
“This is the shit I read on a daily basis, for doing nothing,” she wrote. “People on the internet are disgusting and I lose hope for the world along with brain cells every time I see it.”
The Brampton, Ont. native hinted that she would be taking time away from social media, admitting that the amount of hateful comments she receives has forced her to turn off her comments on Instagram.

“Find me on here only for the next few days because I can’t anymore,” she said. “It’s just not worth it.”
Despite the support from her fans, Cara says the negativity still gets to her.
“It’s easy to tell someone in the public not to pay attention to these kinds of things, and it definitely isn’t wise to do so, but it’s hard not to when it’s constantly being spewed at you.”
“We’re all just people trying to get by and the last thing we need is to make it harder for each other,” she continued. “Especially while navigating today’s climate. Just be kind.”
Cara is currently promoting her new album, The Pains of Growing, a follow-up to her successful debut which earned her a 2018 Grammy for Best New Artist.

The singer doubled down on her comments about taking a break on social media in an Instagram Live, saying that her fame doesn’t make her immune to online bullying’s effects.
“When you say those things to somebody, even if you’re trolling or just trying to make a joke, it makes that person’s day that much harder — at least speaking for myself,” she told fans. “I need some time away from it directly, whether it’s a few days or a few weeks. Sometimes I think you need to step away from those things.”
