Kate Middleton made a sentimental sartorial statement with her wardrobe choice on Wednesday, as she and husband Prince William paid a visit to the town of Pontypridd in Wales. Pontypridd was among the Welsh towns impacted by severe flooding as a result of Storm Bert and Storm Darragh in December 2024.

For the special visit, the Princess of Wales wore a bespoke Alexander McQueen coat in “Welsh Red,” a reference to one of the colors featured on the country’s flag — green, white and a bright red dragon. Adorned on the sharp lapel of Middleton’s coat was a daffodil, the national flower of Wales.
While walking through the town, the British royal eventually forewent her Alexander McQueen coat to reveal other elements of her look. The royal wore a dark turtleneck with an olive green jacket, which she paired with a Gucci pleated wool checked skirt.
Middleton completed the sartorial look with a pair of brown suede Gianvito Rossi boots. As for her accessories, the Princess of Wales wore Gartner teardrop hoops in gold courtesy of Spells of Love, a jewelry brand based in Wales.
Alexander McQueen has long been one of Middleton’s go-to designers when it comes to her royal wardrobe. The Princess of Wales regularly wears coats by the label, and her 2011 wedding dress was designed by Sarah Burton — the former creative director of Alexander McQueen who held the position from 1997 to 2023.
Middleton is no stranger to utilizing her wardrobe as a way to send a subtle message. In the recent past, the royal chose particular pieces of jewelry to honor members of the British royal family, including the late Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II.
Middleton’s appearance in Wales marks her latest public engagement since returning to royal duties following the completion of her chemotherapy treatment in September 2024. Middleton’s 2025 royal engagements thus far have included a visit with children in hospice in Wales, where she rewore a dress from Zara, the Holocaust Remembrance Day service and more.
