Kaws + Andy Warhol by Uniqlo UT: Our Favourite Pieces
If you had the power to teleport me absolutely anywhere in the world right now, I would politely request you zap me to Pittsburgh. Specifically, to 117 Sandusky Street, home of The Andy Warhol Museum.
You see, there's an exhibition that's temporarily occupying a portion of the 88,000 square-foot pop art mecca that unites the works of the address' namesake and his spiritual successor, Kaws, for the first time. It's only showing until 20 January.
Alas, you, reader, are not a sorcerer, and I probably won't make it to the Pennsylvanian city before the Kaws Companions wave a friendly farewell. But lucky for me and fellow international fans of the American art legends, Uniqlo (one of the project’s sponsors) is bringing the coalition to its stores worldwide.
In apparel form, naturally.
“The exhibition KAWS + Warhol actually wouldn’t have felt complete without the broad commercial reach of Uniqlo,” says the exhibition's curator, Patrick Moore on the line overseen by Kaws himself, as well as The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. “Both of these artists have disrupted the traditional boundaries between commercial and fine art as an integral part of their practice.”
Thus, we can enjoy these Uniqlo UT tees, the sweats, the totes, the socks and all of the rest of the gear knowing that it's exactly what the artists stand for (stood for, in Warhol's case). Art for All, as the Japanese retailer puts it.
Here are our favourite pieces.
Kaws + Andy Warhol by Uniqlo UT is available in Uniqlo stores and the Uniqlo webstore now.
