Not heard of a cashmere kitchen? Well, you may have seen this aesthetically pleasing trend popping up online or on social media. Really, it’s all about the colour.

'The cashmere hue is a warm neutral – a grey/white base with a reddish tone,' explains Richard Davonport, managing director at Davonport. 'It can work across different styles, from modern to traditional, gloss to Shaker.' Plus, it looks great on its own or with bolder shades and patterns.

While neutral hues have long been favoured in kitchens, for 2024, cashmere kitchens are enjoying increased popularity, taking inspiration from the 'minimaluxe' and 'quiet luxury' trends – think serene, timeless, effortlessly chic and pared-back.

'Neutral colour palettes will form the basis of this trend, with stony grey, cream, and serene cashmere tones being a popular choice for cabinetry,' says Richard Eaton, design director at Denby. 'In fact, Google searches for "cashmere kitchen cabinets" are up 60 per cent over the past 12 months. Combine these neutral tones with deeper, cosy hues like chocolate brown and sage green and incorporate plenty of organic wooden and stone textures.'

Cashmere is, of course, named after a fine and delicate material. It's luxurious and extremely soft to the touch with insulating properties. So if we're to translate this expensive, high-quality fabric into the world of kitchen design, it's all about bringing a touch of luxury into your home. Here are three ways to tap into the cashmere kitchen trend for less...

1) SPRAY IT

'Most cabinets can be repainted or resprayed at home, which will enable you to create a whole new kitchen without having to replace the cabinetry,' says Richard Davonport. There’s a whole variety of professional companies that offer this service, although you could do this yourself to save some extra cash.

2) SWITCH IT

Don’t want to splash out on marble? We don’t blame you. Strong, resistant to cracks, not porous and costing a quarter of the price, quartz is a brilliant alternative for any busy kitchen worktop counter. Or better yet, cover your current countertop with vinyl.

3) STYLE IT

If the above options are out of the question, introduce the trend into your cookspace more affordably by adding accessories such as chopping boards, a pestle and mortar and tea towels. Choose colours centred around warming tones like cashmere to add comfort and a homeliness to your space.
