Meghan Markle Is Stunned by Chef Roy Choi’s Music Preferences While Cooking, and Isn’t Afraid to Show It

“That doesn’t sound like the joy of cooking!” she said in a clip from her upcoming Netflix show.

As Meghan Markle herself said on Instagram this week, the countdown has begun to her forthcoming Netflix lifestyle series, which premieres Tuesday—and she’s sharing a sneak peek at what to expect from the show.

On February 27, the Duchess of Sussex released a clip from With Love, Meghan, which hits the streaming service on March 4 after its originally scheduled January 15 release date. Meghan pushed the show back in light of the Southern California wildfires, which affected her hometown of Los Angeles the week before the eight-part series was set to premiere.

Speaking of Meghan’s hometown of L.A., she bonded with chef Roy Choi of their mutual experience growing up in the City of Angels in the snippet Meghan shared to her Instagram Story on Thursday. The two specifically discuss L.A.’s Koreatown and how, as Meghan put it, “you could go to all-ages clubs and karaoke bars,” and Choi tells her, “You and I are so similar. We should have met a long time ago.”

They’re not completely in agreement about everything, though—specifically the background music they listen to while cooking in the kitchen. At one point in the clip, Meghan asked Choi, “Do you listen to music when you’re cooking?”

Choi’s preferences ranged broadly: “I listen to a lot of lyrical hip hop, jazz, sometimes speed metal, death metal,” he responded to a stunned Meghan. “No you don’t,” she said, following up with, “What’s speed metal?”

“It’s just, like, dark,” Choi replied, to which Meghan cheekily responded, “That doesn’t sound like the joy of cooking!”

“Yeah, but you know, we all have different sides to who we are,” he said, adding, “It’s good for when you’re butchering”—which got a chuckle from Meghan.

“Thanks to my fellow Angeleno @chefroychoi!” Meghan wrote alongside the clip on her Instagram Story. “Had the best time having you on the show. Can’t wait for all of you to see it!”

On February 26, Meghan shared a much more lighthearted clip of herself in the kitchen, dancing barefoot. The clip from With Love, Meghan also showed her beekeeping, baking, walking her dog on a leash, and even featured a cameo from her husband, Prince Harry. “The countdown begins,” she wrote in the caption for the reel.

The show is described by Netflix as an “inspiring series” that “reimagines the genre of lifestyle programming, blending practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends, new and old”—like Choi.

“Meghan shares personal tips and tricks, embracing playfulness over perfection and highlights how easy it can be to create beauty, even in the unexpected,” the show’s description continued. “She and her guests roll up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same.”

When Meghan debuted the trailer for With Love, Meghan on her newly created Instagram on January 2, she wrote, “I have been so excited to share this with you! I hope you love the show as much as I loved making it.”
