For those with their finger on the sartorial pulse, cow print had us in a chokehold long before we laid eyes on those sell-out Adidas sambas. After leopard print dominated the autumn winter 2024 runways, other animal-inspired patterns including zebra, tiger and snake followed on the spring summer 20225 runways at Roberto Cavalli, Dries van Noten, Schiaparelli and Jacquemus. But, amongst these more exotic hides, cow print has emerged as the clear front runner, confirming it has well and truly transcended the rodeo.
Jackets seem to be the preferred modus when it comes to styling the trend IRL with the print adorning many a boxy biker silhouette and classic trench. As for what to pair it with on your bottom half, the large splotches in brown or black and cream deem this print basically a neutral. Meaning it works with blue, black and white jeans for an off-duty cool-girl-approved weekend look, dresses up tailored trousers with ease and even transitions to date night dressing atop slinky satin slip dresses.
Want to dip your toe into the trend without going the whole hog calf? You can't go wrong with a cow print accessory, be it a bucket bag or ballet flats. However you choose to make the look your own, the key to nailing this fashion trend is to let your cow print item (or co-ord, for the daring dressers out there) sing in an otherwise pared-back ensemble. And leave your cowboy boots at home to avoid any cowgirl connotations – Bella Hadid may be able to pull it off, but we're not all world-famous supermodels.
