Neve Campbell was in Toronto on Thursday for the kickoff of the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and to celebrate the premiere of her film, “Castle In the Ground.”
The Guelph, Ont. native arrived alongside costars Alex Wolff and Imogen Poots to promote the opioid crisis drama helmed by Canadian director Joey Klein.
The 45-year-old turned heads on the red carpet in an edgy black leather-look dress with a thigh high slit and heels. While the ensemble was a red carpet winner, Campbell admits she had trouble deciding what to wear for the festival’s opening night.
“I haven’t been here in at least a decade, and when I went online to check what people were wearing on the red carpet now it was gowns!” Campbell told reporters with a laugh. “I was like, ‘When did it become like the Oscars?’ When I was here 10 years ago it was jeans and t-shirts. I had no idea how big it had become. I knew it was very successful festival but I didn’t understand quite how fancy it had become.”
Despite her absence from what’s been hailed as a precursor to award’s season, the “Scream” alum revealed she admires TIFF for staying true to its roots and celebrating all aspects of film.
“I think what people love about [TIFF] is that it really is for the people. People love to come and see the films and it’s not just industry people. You’re sitting amongst people who are solely fans.”
