It's a first-of-its-kind product we can't wait to see on shelves.

We all love Philadelphia for its creamy, tangy cream cheese that the company has been making for over 150 years. There’s a reason it’s consistently voted the best cream cheese in the world; the recipe for the spread, brick, and even flavored varieties has been perfected, which is why many of us reach for Philadelphia for our morning bagel, and countless other recipes.

While you may associate Philadelphia strictly with cream cheese, it’s not the only product the brand makes. We’ve been obsessed with Philadelphia’s pre-made No Bake Cheesecake Filling since we discovered it—and the snacking Cheesecake Cups and Crumbles are just as delicious.

Now, Philadelphia is expanding its dessert selection with a first-of-its-kind product we can’t believe didn’t exist until now.

Philadelphia Releases New Cream Cheese Frosting

Just in time for pumpkin and holiday cinnamon roll season, Philadelphia is releasing Cream Cheese Flavored Frosting. The frosting (which took a year and a half to develop) is made with fresh milk and real cream—just like Philadelphia’s traditional cream cheese—for a tangy, silky frosting that’s ready-to-eat.

Cream cheese frosting is one of America’s top three favorite frosting flavors, according to polls conducted by Philadelphia, so it’s only natural that the best-selling cream cheese brand would lend its quality product to the baking necessity. Philadelphia’s new frosting is the first-ever refrigerated cream cheese frosting from a mainstream brand in the U.S., as most other baking brands only offer a shelf-stable version.

The ready-to-use frosting will be available at select retailers nationwide beginning in October. It will be sold in a 16-ounce container, which can frost one 13x9” cake, a two-layer 8” or 9” cake, or 14 cupcakes, according to the brand.

I got an early taste of the frosting—here is my honest review.

My Honest Review of Philadelphia's New Cream Cheese Frosting

Cream cheese frosting will always be my preferred frosting when it comes to fall and winter baking. I love pumpkin-anything covered in cream cheese frosting and red velvet cake is my personal Kryptonite.

Sure, the few-ingredient frosting is pretty darn easy to make on its own, but I love a store-bought shortcut whenever possible. However, I’ll always opt for fresh cream cheese frosting over the canned stuff, because the shelf-stable ones just don’t have the same tang.

Philadelphia’s Cream Cheese Flavored Frosting, on the other hand, does. It tastes almost homemade, which, in a pinch, is exactly what you’re looking for.

There is still a hint of artificial flavor on the backend, but once you add it to your dessert, it's barely noticeable. It’s creamy, the right amount of tangy, and has a good level of sweetness that I really enjoyed.

It’s not perfect, but it’s better than most store-bought cream cheese frosting. Will I be eating Philadelphia's cream cheese frosting with a spoon? Probably not. But will I be keeping some in my fridge for dessert emergencies? You bet I will.
