Prince Harry Addresses Rumors That James Hewitt Is His Real Father
The Spare leaks just keep on coming. Today has truly been nonstop when it comes to excerpts from Prince Harry’s memoir hitting the internet, and Page Six just published Harry’s thoughts on those rumors that King Charles isn’t his real father.
To catch everyone up real quick: Harry’s paternity has been called into question over the years by people who are (wrongly) convinced his real father is Princess Diana’s riding instructor, James Hewitt, who she had an affair with.
In his memoir, Harry accuses Charles of making cruel digs about the rumors at his expense:
“Pa liked telling stories, and this was one of the best in his repertoire. He’d always end with a burst of philosophizing….Who knows if I’m really the Prince of Wales? Who knows if I’m even your real father?” Harry writes. “He’d laugh and laugh, thought it was a remarkably unfunny joke, given the rumor circulating just then that my actual father was one of Mummy’s former lovers: Major James Hewitt. One cause of this rumor was Major Hewitt’s flaming ginger hair, but another cause was sadism.”
Again, these rumors are untrue, and Harry himself notes that “my mother didn’t meet Major Hewitt until long after I was born.”
For what it’s worth, Hewitt also denied the claims to the Sunday Mirror in 2002, saying, “There really is no possibility whatsoever that I am Harry’s father. I can absolutely assure you that I am not. Admittedly, the red hair is similar to mine and people say we look alike. I have never encouraged these comparisons and although I was with Diana for a long time, I must state once and for all that I’m not Harry’s father. When I met Diana, he was already a toddler.”
That settles that!
