Is there ‘renewed love’ for frozen yogurt? After leaving KC, this chain is coming back
Red Mango, a Dallas-based frozen yogurt chain, is opening its only Kansas City area location.
The new shop will be in Lenexa’s Orchard Corners shopping center, at the southwest corner of 95th Street and Quivira Road, said Loren Brown, a spokesperson for the company.
The new shop will open in early 2025. Its exact address has yet to be announced, Brown said.
Red Mango serves all-natural and nonfat or low-fat frozen yogurt, as well as acai bowls and smoothies.
Previously, Red Mango had two Kansas City area locations: one at 5050 Oak St. near the University of Missouri-Kansas City campus, and one in the Tiffany Springs Market Center at 8990 N.W. Skyview Ave.
The last Red Mango closed in 2013.
Parent company Brix Holdings also owns Orange Leaf frozen yogurt company (there’s one in Overland Park at 11524 W. 135th St.), Smoothie Factory + Kitchen, and Friendly’s burger chain. The company said in a press release they’re hoping to satisfy the country’s “renewed love” for fro-yo.
Brix acquired juice chain Clean Juice this year.
While the ice cream alternative was once wildly popular, Kansas City has seen a handful of frozen yogurt shops close in the past few years.
Mely’s, 4051 Somerset Drive in Prairie Village, closed four years ago, shortly after its owner retired and sold the shop. It became Summer Salt Ice Cream Co.
TCBY (The Country’s Best Yogurt) at 6966 Mission Road closed in 2020 and reopened as ice cream shop Chill in the Village.
Yoguritini still has five locations in the metro, including in Overland Park at 8941 W. 135th St.
