'Shocking how chilly it gets': This incredible cooling towel is only $5 right now

Looking for some quick and inexpensive relief from the summer heat? Amazon shoppers say this is the answer.

Heat waves have been rippling throughout the country for weeks, and we're not even halfway through summer yet. When the temperature rises above 90°F, we reach for anything and everything to keep ourselves cool. So we took our mission to Amazon and found a quick fix that shoppers say actually helps and doesn't break the bank: the Ergodyne Chill-Its Cooling Towel. Right now, you can get one on sale, starting at just $5.

This little wonder is so simple to use: Just hold it under running water for one minute (or until saturated), wring it out and apply for sweet, sweet cooling relief.

Why is it a good deal? 💰

The on-sale price of $5 (depending on color) is on par with the lowest price we've ever seen. We don't know how much longer this will last, though, so snag it ASAP to stay cool for the rest of the summer.

Why do I need this? 🤔

This year the heat hit "unusually early" as the New York Times reported, and it's not going anywhere soon. We've found several items to help keep you cool, but the Ergodyne Chill-Its Cooling Towel is designed to provide cool relief quick. It's made from Polyvinyl Alcohol, or PVA, a nontoxic, biodegradable polymer that happens to be super-absorbent. It a common material for cosmetic sponges because it can be used over and over again. When the towel is completely dry, it's stiff. To activate it, just run it under cold water.

Once the cloth is saturated, it feels cooler than the ambient temperature and can stay cool for up to four hours. At that point, you can re-wet it with just a little bit of water and its cooling powers will be restored.

What reviewers say 💬

If there’s one thing we can count on this summer, it’s torrid temps. Amazon shoppers can’t say enough about how well these Chill-Its work when the heat is unbearable and dangerous.

Pros 👍

"This brand is like some wizardry," one surprised shopper wrote. "It is shocking how chilly it gets and cools your body on the hottest days."

The Chill even has quasi-medical uses! "I used these to help when I had an allergic reaction and my legs broke out in hives," the shopper explained. "Awesome products. Definitely worth their weight in gold!"

It's even hot-flash-approved! “I went through chemo for cancer and have a horrible time with hot flashes, and these are great for them!" wrote an enthusiastic shopper. "I keep one at the office and one at home.”

"Works extremely well. We used these during the 100-plus degree weather and we were able to be fairly comfortable since our A/C was out," another reliever reviewer said. "I have purchased about a half dozen of these, so we have them for friends if we need them."

One amazed customer even said it saved a fellow tourist from overheating. "While on a cruise, we went on a scavenger hunt on the island of Aruba," they wrote. "It was a stifling 98 degrees and 95% humidity. One of the women in our group started to get overheated to the point of nausea and almost passing out. I had taken six of these with me, on ice, in a small rolling cooler. I got one out and placed it around her neck. She literally cried from the relief she felt from this amazing cloth!!"

Cons 👎

While it's generally a shopper-favorite, one reviewer mentioned one flaw that was hard to ignore. "After about 10+ uses, the color started to bleed out," the shopper wrote. "It went from being an orange color to a discolored pink."

Another shopper added that it just "needs to be a little longer" for them to give it a perfect rating.

The cooling power of the Chill-Its cooling towel can last for up to four hours on a single soak. Just re-wet it to reactivate the chilly goodness.

Another cool way to keep from overheating is this handy little fan.

Beat the heat with this No. 1 bestselling handheld fan, which also has a built-in USB power bank, a flashlight and adorable little "ears". It's over 40% off!

This reviewer called it a "summer essential," adding, "It fits perfectly in my purse. Comes in handy in the Louisiana heat. Battery life lasted for about two weeks for me. Also, the flashlight is very bright and the perfect addition."
